Topic: a new wii for u

So if nintendo diched wii u( not that i want them too) what would you want in a new console?
Or would you like this new console sold alongside wii u?
Or is the wii u doing just fine?

The Wii U is doing just fine. Don't listen to all the analysts or whatever. We all know the real reason it doesn't sell, is because of the lack of software. Just like 3DS.

I don't think it's soon enough to abandon the U at all right now, but hypothetically, if the U still did not pick up and they did abandon it, I would prefer a system with a more traditional controller design and enough power to run multi-plats. (Just my opinion, I like the U as a console in it's current state.)

I'm not going to count the Wii U out for the count just yet, but 160,000 units in a whole quarter is rock bottom, not "doing just fine". Hate to be that guy. Sorry.

I don't know what they could do. If they'd release a new system it would just get the same problems as the WiiU is having right now.

The Wii U can already run multi-plat games.

I agree that the Wii U should sell better, but that's a goal Nintendo obviously has. They just don't have enough games for many to want the console. That's gonna change in the next few months.

I don't think Wii U will have any problem by the end of the year. Not to mention Wii U will run the same version of COD: Ghosts as other platforms, but will include the GamePad and Wii remote+.
Even if you don't like the game, it still gives some insight that the Wii U will be able to hold it's own in the 8th generation regarding 3rd parties.

As long as there is an audience, 3rd parties will get their games out for Wii U.

@8BitSamurai I meant it's doing just fine as a console, not in sales. I personally think the Wii U is a great console, with all the games out, and coming out, and with Miiverse (which I love), and the performance, the eShop, the internet browser etc.

I paid £350 for a Wii U last November. If they ditch it now. I won't be buying anything new, thanks

There's a reason why even the shortest console shelf lives of consoles that had successors are ~4 years. A lot of the money spent on these platforms is in the R&D and software rather than the hardware itself. Creating a new console would just mean throwing away a lot of that work. You'd basically create another product that's competing with your current platform. So it really doesn't make much sense.

Also for some perspective the Wii U has been out for just over six months and has sold 3.3mill. The Virtual Boy was out for a year and only sold 770k, the Dreamcast had three years on the market and sold 10.6mill units, the Vita had only moved 2.5mill units at this point in its life and the 3DS before the price drop and magic of late 2011 had only moved 3.5mill units. As far as consoles go the Wii U is doing as bad as the Gamecube did.... and the Gamecube was on the market for ~5 years before the Wii launched, sold 22 mill units, had some fantastic software and was profitable.

The Wii U isn't doing as well as the Wii did but it's not "let's dump this idea and release a new console" by a long shot.

Nintendo wouldn't give up like Skywake said for at least another 3 years. I think they could float the boat by thenselves for at least that long. Beside look at all the hate they would get from current owners for ditching so soon. If they thought the Wii U ewas in serious trouble they would've done a price drop just like they did for the 3ds. Now come Feburary and they still only have 5-6 million sold worldwide then they will panic and drop the price and rethink their stratagy. Besides if they brought a new system out it would take at least another 2 years to hit the market and it better be way more powerful then Ps4 and Xbox One and not on the same level oterwise they once again run the risk of being behind!

If they abandoned the wii u early no one would ever forgive them they would get much more hate then they already do and their loyal fans would certainly be wary to buy the next console Nintendo would be stupid to abandon a console.

I doubt I would buy it so it wouldn't matter. I would just feel rather unhappy with my Wii U purchase.

I didn't say otherwise, I said that at this point in its life it had sold less than the Wii U has and it's a portable console which typically sell more. I said something similar for the 3DS which had only sold 3.5mill before its price drop. Same point in the 3DS' life is nonsense because that was after the price drop and games because the 3DS launched early in the year. Lifetime sales for the 3DS are ~33mill and they had moved ~13mill by the end of its first year... but it would be ridiculous to compare the Wii U to that because it had a good two years head start.

Even the Wii, the high end benchmark for this sort of thing, had 'only' moved 10mill units at this point in its life. Which was a significant milestone because it was also the point where it overtook the 360 for overall sales.

As for a new console, I imagine that they'll beef up the specs a bit or include more features. I can't think of much else beyond that.

I expect this generation for Nintendo to last just as long as the last. 6 Years. 2006 - 2012 was the Wii,
2012 - 2018 is the Wii U. Also, the 3DS will have 7 years just like the DS.
2004 - 2011 was the DS, 2011 - 2018 is the 3DS.

From the merging of handheld and home console devisions recently, this suggests that a hybrid console is in the works. A system that is a handheld device, but is also a controller for the next home console.

The main controller/handheld will have 3 screens. Looking at it, it looks like a small Wii U Gamepad, but the screen flips open and reveals 2 inner HD screens. The button layout doesn't flip open, just the screen. It's hard to explain.

The system, when on the go, can play future 4DS titles(I know it won't be called 4DS...) and these titles will allow play with one screen...or 2 screens. You choose!

When the system is in within 100 ft of a docking station(home console), you can automatically connect to it and use it as a controller.

The home console will use this handheld device as the main controller, but the device itself is the next gen handheld system. Like I mentioned....Nintendo already merged both divisions...it's going to happen.

Wii Remote Plus will still be around...it'll just be more compact, smaller, and named something else. Pro controller support is also available for local multiplayer without buying a whole new device. Digital purchases is a heavy focus, but Nintendo won't abandon physical retail games.

This system's lifespan will be about 10 years...before we see a highly upgraded version...and so forth.

Sure did! OP wasn't about just what the next console would be it was a question with three options. Most people took something along the lines of the third and concluded it was too radical a move this early in the console cycle. Even with it doing as badly as the Gamecube did.

Ditch the Gamepad, make it mandatory for every game and app to work with a Wiimote, Pro Controller and/or Classic Controller. Start bundling Wiimotes in Wii U console packages, sell the Gamepad separately as an optional accessory (perhaps include a game like Nintendoland with it).

And then there are fewer reasons to buy a Wii U
