Nintendo's servers are incredibly slow. I have a 100mbps connection, so download speeds should be much, much shorter than they are now. I waited two hours for the Sonic-demo to download, for example. Download speed is just one of the many things why I won't be buying any retail-games from the eShop.
I have a 7mb/s connection, and it took me 3 hours to download and install that full game. The Wii U only goes up to 8.88 mb/s. Someone said here PS3 tops out at 26, and PC 44 or something earlier in the post.

We should also not that no services use the entirety of that 100mb/s, especially since PC only tops out at 44mb/s(maybe more depending on the PC?). Netflix uses 3.8mb/s to stream HD movies, so you could stream Netflix at full quality for 26 devices, considering they are all also HD. I think games use 2.5-4 mb/s to play online.
There's kind of no point to get a higher mb/s rate unless you're running a business with multiple devices all at once, it's the same price as another companies lower speed, or it's the only option available.
We also have to look at whether the streamed/downloaded files are compressed. I've heard some PS3 files are compressed, so a 30GB game can be fit into a 15GB folder. This can alter the quality, but ultimately get you the game twice as fast.
So again, mb speed isn't everything. If I can download a 6GB Sonic Racing game in the same amount of time as a 2-3GB demo of the same game faster than 100mb/s, at 7mb/s, I'm pretty sure we know the extra $60 for 93mb/s worth of speed might be a waste.

I just tried the link and did the test. My Wii U downloads at 1.49mb/s. I can download 6GB in 3 hours.

Remember. These tests are just reference, which could mean nothing. Who knows how many people are testing their connection all at once right now, the compression of that file, etc. There's way too many variables that affect this test to call it accurate.

You can certainly get faster than 7mb/s though. So if someone has a PS3, Xbox, iPad, PC or, well, anything other than a Nintendo console, they will be downloading faster than your 7mb/s with a 100mb/s.
So really you are still paying for far better service.
I understand, but some those numbers can mean nothing sometimes. If I were to pay for 100mb/s, and I'll only ever stream Netflix, it would be a waste. You might as well ask everyone on your whole block to pay $2 each to share one Wi-fi hotspot. That's exagerating, but any speed over 40mb/s is an overkill kinda. Things you had to download for 10+ minutes years ago, can be streamed to you instantly. We technically can stream 4K, 3D, and other content with what we have already intenet speed wise, even though those devices aren't out yet. I think if they ever stream Netflix with 4K, 3D, and 7.1 surround sound, it will reach 70mb/s minumum speed to get the ideal quality, but we're not 5 years in the future, so it doesn't matter.

I feel for you man I really do I'am with eircom (In Ireland) and got a free upgrade from 25 to 50mbps (cost €60 including unlimited download) 150mbps is the max with them at the moment but the cost isint worth it tbh.

Did you read the post I was responding to? First of all, he had no idea it was possible to download games while running other software. Second, he didn't know it left off where it was stopped when you turn off your console. Lastly, the only services to compare it to are XBox Live and PSN. PSN does compress files to download faster. I know that for a fact.
It's like saying a Dolby sound decoder that outputs 5.1 is just as good as PCM 5.1. It's just not. The only thing better than PCM 5.1 is Dolby sound decoders that output 7.1, but even in that case, the only benefit is quantity, but PCM 7.1 is better than Dolby 7.1.

Using that logic, I guess you don't ZIP stuff either. You know, because squishing all that data into a smaller space obviously makes it of much worse quality when you decompress it.
