I'm somewhat tempted to try out Kirby 64
Untitled
.....mildy tempted that is. But at this point I'm a smidge Kirby'd out because of Epic Yarn, so I might save this one for later if it's even worth it.

And there's also Kirby's Dreamland 3....
Untitled
But i hear that one's one of the worst in the series, the graphical style is unnapealing and it's just boring to play. Honestly i don't really care to play it, but i just want to so i can say i've played every main console kirby game. :p but then again....

I think I'm better off just waiting for Kirby Wii instead.

The color on NES VC games is really bugging me. Yesterday, here I am playing and unloading a can of "whip" with everyone's second favorite vampire hunter, Trevor Belmont, and something just feels a bit off. Now that you mention it I realize it was the color. I am going to take your suggestions and fiddle around with my TV's settings. NES games were definitely meant to be played bright and in living color.

Also you would be happy to know I used this:
Untitled

It is nice because it does not overdo the help however, I do still learn some good stuff including to get doubleshot and tripleshot I need to kill enemies 10 times with the sub-weapon. Maybe not a big deal but I never knew that, I always thought it was random but now I get triple shot boomerang a lot more :D Oh! You will be happy to know StarTropics is one of the games in it by the way! :) If you dont have a copy of one of these puppies you should definitely consider it for your NES collection.

I probably stared at that picture you posted way more then I should have. haha... It took me back to some good times :D If only my room looked like that now, that would be so sweet. I heard fashion is cyclical so I cannot wait until the 80's come back, I will welcome it with open arms!

Oh and do you have a top loader NES or classic?

Yeah, StarTropics is great, I love it a lot. Good luck finishing it though, it's extremely difficult, and pretty cheap at times as well.

I'm gonna answer this again since i just finished the game last night. If there was anything cheap about StarTropics it was the final Boss(which I was actually kind of let down by), and those damn Aliens riding those air Cycle Jets on Chapter 7. :p

Oh I how miss my NES Atlas. I used it so much in my NES days that it literally fell apart. I am half tempted to track down a copy one of these days but I am not sure I want to see the price.

I've actually got the classic Nes, personally i can't stand the design of the Top Loader. I don't care how much more reliable it is. :p and YES, bring back the 80's i say! My place actually captures this beachy- california 80's look to it with a splash of trippyness hehe.

Oh andl here's an example of what my TV is set too for Wii and NES VC games. B-)

oO Wii Oo

Mode: Movie
Contrast: 98/100
Brightness: 50/100
Color: 51/100
Hue: 50/100
Sharpness: 75/100 - (But i put it to 50 for all VC games)
Color Temp: Warm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
oO Nes VC games Oo
Mode: Standard
Contrast: 98/100
Brightness: 58/100
Color: 100/100
Hue: 50/100
Sharpness: 50/100
Color Temp: warm
If I were you I'd try out a different mode on your TV, and jack up the color to the highest it can go to. Do you use and HDTV or SDTV? If you've got a plasma or CRT than you'll definitly beable to get some more saturated punchier colors, but it depends. But yup, i even feel like creating a new thread all together about how Nes VC titles looked washed out, while throwing up some comparison screen shots and the like. Anyways, since I have the Mega Man Anniversary collection for the GCN, along with a component connection I know what NES colors and brightness levels are supposed to look like and they look eye scortching colorful. When you compare that to MM2 on the NES VC.....Your instant reaction would be "WTF happened!?" I think I'll post some comparison shots when i take some photo's. :p
And I wish i would of had one of those magazines growing up, it was usually NintendoPower or Game Pro for me!
Yeah, definitely. Both games are the worst Kirby games I've played, and both of them a slow as hell. Kirby 64 in particular is only remotely challenging when you have to use a useless weapon configuration to get a certain crystal shard.
Well, Kirby Super Star Ultra is definitly my favorite Kirby platformer to date. KEY was pretty good, but the ridiculous brain dead easy challenge(for the millionth time) mucked up the fun and sense of reward and satisfaction, I felt Kirby's Adventure was just decent....I think what annoyed me the most about it was how you performed the flying mechanic, you had to press up before you kept pressing the jump button to fly....WTF!?
Ya you can use 'up' on the d-pad to make him float but it feels terrible, and i found the game annoying to look at for some reason and I just didn't feel compelled to play it, nor was it even that fun really.
Yet I have a special place for Dreamland for the GB, but that's mostly due to nostalgia. Anyways! So you're saying to skip the other two hey? Guess I'll just wait for Kirby Wii then. :p As for NES VC games, there are no more on the list that capture my interest. I was psyched about getting StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge, but then i saw how HORRIBLE the game looked.....completely changing the controls which made the chess-like gameplay in the original so awesome to begin with, while downgrading the graphics by the looks of it.
Once Adventure Island 2 and Mega Man 5 come out, then I'll be happy. B-)
I never was interested in Kirby for some reason. I hear good things about them all the time but no dice. If Kirby floats your boat then more power to you.
My main TV is an LCD so I will give your NES VC settings a test drive. Thanks and hopefully it just expands upon the greatness of the overall experience.
So you have the California 80's trippy theme? To cool... So you are Canadian right, west coast British Columbia by chance? I had that Tyco remote control car in that picture to along with some baseball trophies. I did not have the awesome Nintendo game/Nintendo Power eyeball hexagon book ends though! I so wish :) Oh and that will be one hell of a fantastic Halloween costume!
@Tasuki I only have like 5 or 6 pages loose pages in my NES Atlas. haha...
I never got the Mario Mania (shame on me) but I also have these:
I'm interested in Metal Slug for the VC. But I've heard the game can be quite difficult. Are there unlimited continues in this game or can you insert as many coins as you want like in the arcade games? If not, I think I better pass on this one.
I have Metal Slug 2, I think you get like 5 continues, but I think you can also join as a 2nd player and get 5 more continues. Neo Geo games get ridiculously difficult towards the end like most classic arcade games.
BTW if you're interested in Metal Slug 1, remember there is a compilation disc, 'SNK anthology' or something, which has that and like 11 other classic Neo Geo games on it. Might be worth a look, as I think it can be found pretty cheaply.
I've heard the Metal Slug version on the Anthology compilation cannot be played with the classic controller. And I like playing with the classic controller instead of the WiiRemote.
You're right. You can't use the classic controller on Metal Slug Anthology. But you can use the classic controller to play the first Metal Slug on SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1. You also have the option of unlimited continues in that version of the game.
Thanks. The compilations on DVD are much cheaper but I only want the first one and I'm preferring downloadable games. So can anyone tell me if Metal Slug 1 for VC has unlimited continues? I've even heard there is some kind of load/save-game but I'm pretty unsure how this should work on a NeoGeo console.
I've read about this in the gameFAQs message board.
I'd pick Phantasy Star 4 over 2 and 3.
And It sounds like Chrono Trigger is coming this Monday. It's hasn't aged as well as some fans like to pretend, but I'd still buy it over Phantasy Star 2 and 3.
What's there to age? Chrono Trigger does things I wish modern games had picked up on.
