Congratulation NOA, you are officially the stupidiest video game company in the world (No offense to NOJ, NOE, NOA (Nintendo of Australia.), or NOK (Nintendo of Korea). Now prepare to lose your hardcore audiences.

I fail to see how no VC releases for two weeks is going to make hardcore Nintendo fans (I always giggle a little when I hear Nintendo fans being called hardcore) abandon Nintendo. I consider myself a huge Nintendo fan. I've owned every Nintendo console since the original 8-bit NES. I must admit that the VC was a big reason for me to buy a Wii, but now that I've got it I'm enjoying regular Wii games and WiiWare a lot more. In fact I've only bought three VC games - Super Mario Bros. 3, Double Dragon and Street Fighter II - and I bought those just for nostalgic reasons. They just don't play the same way for me as they did when I was a kid. They just sit on my Wii unplayed.

Face reality here - Nintendo only hears your dollars. Stop petitioning for more games and start buying what's already been released. If you and everyone else who is upset about the lack of VC releases, got together and started increasing VC sales then Nintendo will take notice. Your $$$money$$$ speaks a lot louder than your complaints.

The only reason that the Virtual Console is dying is because of how lazy and ignorant Nintendo of America is being. It really doesn't make any sense why they're only continuing to force shovelware at us. Why are they not supporting Virtual Console right now? For money. What would games like SSB, Final Fantasy, etc.... bring them? Money. Are they smart enough to figure this simple logic out? Not a ****ing chance.

Nintendo claims that the increased sales of Wiiware and decreased sales of VC are why they've shifted focus. Take one look at the quality, and especially quantity, of recent releases and you'll figure out exactly why this has happened. If Nintendo had released a few better games, and actually released something in the past two weeks, interest in the service wouldn't have declined. Nintendo caused the death of the service, and it's not looking like they'll fix it anytime soon.

You shouldn't have done that.

MetalMario

I'm kinda tired of hearing about this, and it's still Monday. It's just stupid if you ask me.

People ABANDONING Nintendo for not getting a VC game in two weeks? Come on. Over 20 years of great gaming and fan service, and you abandon them because of a Virtual Console-less 14 days? Wow. Truly sad.

@caelett: Why do you giggle at Nintendo fans being hardcore? Enlighten me.

On Topic: I think all of you should be happy, they are only not releasing VC games because they have all of those guys who usually work on the VC getting the Virtual Handheld ready for the DSi.

Look this is not the first time Nintendo has done something like this. True right now we are not getting any VC games but just you wait soon a big game is going to be released sooner or later to make up for the poor VC updates.
As for the Nintendo and Internet Channel Updates I say bull@*#%! I have seen videos of the update for the Nintendo Channel and I don't see why Nintendo would not want to make the update and for the Internet Channel c'mon I can barely watch youtube videos without getting that stupid not enough cookies message.

I didn't mean it in a demeaning way. I just find it a little funny, no offense to anyone intended.

@pie4prez: Do you have a source for your Virtual Handheld assertion, or are you just making stuff up? I think I could be happy with that answer, but only if it's confirmed.

I just read the quote and I'm officialy shocked.
Here is the famous quote:

"We understand your concern about the lack of service on the VC as of late. Due to sales numbers being far greater recently on Wiiware than on Virtual Console, we have decided to steer in the direction of WiiWare. Also, we in America have NO plans to update the Internet Channel or the Nintendo Channel. We hope you understand”.

No, I do not understand Nintendo! They truly only care about money when it comes to VC!! Truly, they plan on completely not supporting the service, at least for now. I knew it, NOA truly does not care what we want for the VC. Even petitions are not going to change their minds, only decreasing sales numbers of WiiWare games. This also means we will more than likely not see a Virtual Handheld service on the DSiWare ever. If this is the case, NOA has made one of the worst decisions ever.

Nintendo is a business. In order to remain a successful business, they need to cater to wherever the money is. If the money is in WiiWare at the moment, and they've got some good WiiWare titles lined up for release at the moment, that's what they're gonna focus on.

SuperSonic1990 wrote:

Absolutely, because money talks louder than any words (unless you're talking contracts, but contracts are generally money-related anyhow) in the business world.

And if this is the case (i would be sad :/), then at least Reggie has been up-front with us from day one about it instead of dangling it over our heads.

I'm a bit surprised about not updating the Nintendo Channel because the improvements introduced in Japan really add value to it. It's nice being able to view my play stats as well. I have to think that update will come across eventually; it would be stupid not to -- especially if they want to market downloads more effectively.

The Internet Channel is more understandable because the resolution of 480p really isn't that great for text. You'd need more robust keyboard support, tabbed browsing and cut-and-paste functions to make it worthwhile, but the need to keep zooming in and out is going to ensure this is the browser of last resort regardless.

Yeah. I only used the Internet Channel for when I couldn't go on the family P.C. (like at nights or when someone else is using it). It would be horrible to use as your only way of going online. Thankfully, I have a keyboard or it would be too much hassle without one to use at all.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

My main problem is that when using an editor (like making a post here or online email), you only get three lines of text on screen at once, so really even with improved resolution I'd find it impossible to use for extended periods of time. I don't understand this limitation at all and it's quite frustrating having to manually scroll up to see what I just typed, or having to move the cursor manually just to make a spelling correction.

I'll try to stop derailing the thread now!

I think it's safe to say we'll see the update at some point. At least in NA, Nintendo's favorite thing to do is say, "No you're not....(pause)....yes you are!". Then they grin and release it like they surprised all of us! I just smile, act surprised, and say thank you and that I wasn't expecting it...it's kind of like a surprise bday party. You knew it was coming, but gotta make them feel good for throwing it.

Canceling the Virtual Console on the Wii would be the worst decision Nintendo of America has ever made. It wiil hurt them fiancially.

Reading about the Email in question supposedly from Nintendo (has anybody else Emailed and gotten the same reply?), here's the impression I get about the direction they're going.

Nintendo isn't going to officially end the VC. They haven't gotten this far with stupid business practices, and common sense has to tell them that making such an announcement would alienate quite a few customers. Sony and Microsoft would be grateful for the announcement of the VC's end, as Nintendo would be helping them sell quite a few PlayStaion 3s and Xbox 360s to disgruntled Wii owners.

Instead, it looks to me that they're going to keep the VC around for filler when they have few WiiWare titles to offer. Now, I hate to think of VC games being treated like an afterthought, but if that's the case that's better than no VC. If this is what's going on, though, I wouldn't count on seeing VC games on Mondays very often. With the reduction to almost nothing in VC releases, it's crystal clear that it was just something to make money on until WiiWare became available and then popular.

I'm still going to Email Nintendo myself and see what they have to say, as I've still not seen confirmation from a second individual about receiving any Emails saying the same thing as the original controversy starter.

Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

I will not believe this message until I get my responce. I also sent a letter if they are continuing the Virtual Console.

I really don't see what the big problem is here. Sending a bunch of e-mails that will just get you an automated reply because Nintendo probably can't answer EVERY e-mail that they get every day, it just seems pointless.

Maybe they are focusing on WiiWare now to help boost sales for it. Knowing Nintendo, you know that they try to put the utmost effort into making every platform its best. That's probably why they are trying to get more big games on WiiWare so that it stands up to the Virtual Console's library and people have a large selection. There are many more hits on Virtual Console than on WiiWare, so I think it's only fair that Virtual Console steps aside for a couple weeks and lets WiiWare take the spotlight for once. I honestly don't think Virtual Console is gone forever. It has only been two weeks. Not a month. If it was a month I'd be a little worried. There are many games on there you can buy, and you obviously can't forget the awesome retail games. I like the Virtual Console alot as well, but I'm not complaining every time we go without it a couple weeks.

Virtual console is the best though, and it still needs great games like Earthbound. Although I bet Wiiware makes better sales.
