Ahh, my favorite franchise of all time. I would always choose Mega Man over anything else back in my Nes days...Don't get me wrong, I love Mario, Zelda, Castlevania and Metroid as much as the next guy, but Mega Man was my man ;p.
Anyways, I missed out on MM7 and MM & Bass sadly. Yet i picked up a copy of MM & Bass a couple of weeks ago, along with the MM Anniversary Collection for the Gamecube which has MM7 in it. Thank god I have a Snes RetroUSB Cable for my Wii and an SNES controller to use for it, Because there's no way I'd use the GCN controller to play it ;p I'll be playing those 2 AFTER i get my hands on MM10 in March, I dont want to be Mega Man'd out before it's release.

Anyways back on topic. MM2 and MM9 are the cream of the crop if you ask me...I dont want to get into why because there would just be too much to read ;p

MM1 will always have a special place in my heart, as it's the first MM game I ever played when i was 5 or 6 back in the Nes days. It was the building blocks for the MM franchise, it was amazing for its time...yet alitle rough around the edges.

MM3 i find a tad overrated, a stepdown from MM2 as far as Robot Masters and Music are concerned...Yes MM3 has a terrible line of Robot Masters(besides Snake Man) the whole screen is filled with Blue and Orange once Snake Man is defeated(as someone pointed out)...Needle and hard man are just terrible designs. I dug the slide, proto man, rush and the Dr. Wily return stages...but overall it didn't have the same impact, music or awesome robot masters that 2 had. it was also trying to be more badder and darker than MM2, where as I liked the more colorful and Vibrant look of MM2 seen in Air, Bubble and Wood Man's stages.

MM4 is just 'ok'....Personally i'm not crazy over the Mega Buster...And some of the stages were just dull, the music was tingy for the most part and Dr.Kossacks and Wily's castle were mediocre. Overall it was just OK imo. Gotta love Skull man ;p

I havent played MM5 in a while, but based on my experience it was a letdown. It basically lost the MM vibe and overall it was just mediocre to the tee' regarding everything...

MM6 had the worst line of Robot masters, crappiest level design and music to ever grace a MM game...And It was clearly rushed as well. Overall it's my worst MM game easily. But i'll be replaying 5 and 6 soon since it's been a while so my thaughts may change. Also I'm not saying MM5 and MM6 are bad games, they're just bad games compared to other great mega man games.

Ahh and last but not least, MM8 I enjoyed this one back in the PSX days, besides Mega Man's awful annoying voice and most of 'bluh' ambient 'non Mega Man' sounding music. I remember it being very difficult in certain areas....and who can forget Clown Man?,,er ;p

Anyways, what are your favorites and duds of the classic MM franchise?

MM2 by far! I had MM2 and MM3 as a kid and played them both to death. Maybe it's because I had MM2 first and played it more because it was new to me. I remember getting MM3 and thinking it was exactly the same as MM2, which isn't a bad thing really, but kids want something new and exciting.

5 is actually my favorite. i have no idea why, i just enjoyed that one more. it was easier for me than the ones before it, so it was one i could handle. i recently bought the GC anniversary collection, and started playing through it, but for some reason, 5 was the only one i could stick with.

i loved how several of its bosses were so blatanly and hilariously racist, as well. Tomahawk Man???

I'm with you, Don. MM2 sweeps it for me, and MM9 is probably next in line.

Then either 3 or 4. I remember loving 4 as a kid, but I haven't played it since...whereas I HAVE played 3 and it's held up pretty well. I can't say the same thing for 4 until I play it again on the VC.

Same for me MM2 is the best, MM9 follows right behind it, though I do LOVE the Legends Series.

I beg to differ. In my honest opinion, Mega Man 3 deserves the credit it gets.
For me, it's 3, 2, and 9.
Mega Man 3 is my favorite MM game in the series because it was longer than the previous games and was much more challenging than 2 (again, my opinion). I think the soundtrack is on par with 2's soundtrack.
The only thing that bothers me is the slowdown when too many sprites crowd the screen.

Heck I got just got MM2 yesterday off the VC(never played it before) and I love it! Even though it`s the only Mega man game I`ve played, I guess it`s my favorite.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, would you kindly?

ahh i forget to mention about the slowdown, which was another dissapointment regarding MM3...It was even there during certain Boss Battles and made them far easier ;p

I have fond memories of playing MM4 when I was a kid...I started out with 1-3 of course, yet i remember renting MM4 at my local video store along with Waldo for the Nes ;p lol don't ask. Anyways, Skull man's stage always stood out for me, after all it was the first stage I picked. But sadly, MM4 never hooked me the way 1 and 2, and even 3 did. it just felt like it was missing something, like the magic and vibe that the previous MM games had. Yet it was still a decent game....but if i remember I found it becoming stale.

but I rented it for a second time and i totaly played the hell out of it. Dr.Kosacks Stage 2 music is fantastic by the way ;p
I also beat MM4 last year on my NES. And even still i felt it was just 'decent' On the flip side, most of the Robot Masters are better than 3's and MM4 sort of has that same Vibrant colorful look of MM2, not to mention they brang back MM1 and 2's Boss introduction Music(which 3 didn't have) AND i have to say, MM4 has fantastic Boss music....it's just bad ass. And I'm pretty sure it didn't suffer any crazy slowdown problems like MM3 did..

I have a feeling MM10 will beat out MM9....Already the music is fantastic...Based on the trailers Soundtrack which sounds either like a Dr.Wily level or Nitro Man's stage. Then there's Strike Man's music which i find totaly catchy, it's already stuck in my head hehe ;p And you can't forget MM10's bad ass Title theme.

And you can also play as 3 different characters, and Proto man isn't just some $5 Add-on like he was in MM9. Hopefully, MM10 has those awesome Wily Return Stages like in MM3...And i wonder who the 3rd playable character will be? it makes sense for it to be Bass yet predictable. If so he'll have the ability to double jump and shoot up which would be awesome.
Or it could be Roll in her own Pink Mega Man get up ;p or DUO....but Hopefully it's Bass.

PS: What do you guys think of MM7? alot of people say its one of the worst in the Classic Franchise. but it seriously looks alot better than 4,5 and 6. It's really colorful, the stages are craetive and fun looking, and it's the first 16 bit mega man...And it introduces Bass to the franchise. Like i said I missed out on this one back in the day, and I'm giving it a go after MM10...shall' be fun indeed

No way. MM2 introduced the amazing bubble, air, and wood man stages....those were extremely creative and original. the music was amazing and unforgettable. MM3 no doubt was a great game, bet it fell short compared to MM2 when it came to creativity, robot masters and music. sure you got the slide, rush and proto man....but for me it just wasn't as good. The robot masteres for MM 3 for the most part were bornig and terrible. 2 was vibrant, colorful, creative and just flat out epic. 2 for the win baby, especiallt when you gre up with it

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Honestly I would say 2 though I'm not that huge into classic mega man. I do prefer the X series. Perhaps I'm just weird?

I think MM2 is way more overrated than MM3. I mean, come on! They have made a song about AirMan.

Actually, I like 3 and 4 the most.
