That's how I see it. :3

Why so low for Mega Man 7?...And I still need to play MM8 again, i remember enjoying it more than MM6 which was just so uninspired and lacking in creativity....Robot Masters, Stage design and music were all terrible.

MM7 on the other hand looks beautiful, colorful, vibrant, it's got better music than MM6(Slash Man's track is great) and it's more in tune with past mega man games. But this is based on what I've 'seen' of it...I have yet to play it, even though i have it on my MM Anniversary collection. I'm going to play it once i'm done with MM10.

As for MM8....i enjoyed back in the day, crappy music and voice acting aside. But i need to give it another go, it's been a while.
Still, MM4 was just decent...MM5 was mediocre and MM6 was crap.

2, 9, 3, 1 are the Gems.....Again, havent played 7 so I cant say....nor Mega Man & Bass. I've only played the Intro Stage and Cold Man's stage and based on that i totaly enjoyed it...seems pretty tough with Mega Man ;p

I haven't finished 7, 8 or 9 yet although I think the list will continue like so:
1 >7 >8 >9

9 is the worst because it's a bit of traditional gameplay, mixed with lots of frustrating gimmick.

Edit: Also the best part of 8 is the hilarious voice acting, and I'm curious as to why people find the later games less inspired than the robot masters in 1-3, back then it was practically Ordinary Man 1-20 (2 can be non-ordinary man, choose wisely!)

Amazing how Capcom can release a new Mega Man after all these years and it's in almost everyone's top 3.
I agree with OP. Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 9 stand way above the rest.
Mega Man 5 is typically regarded as the worst, followed by 6.
I don't actually like 3 all that much for some reason - possibly because there are just too many disappearing platform sections.
I haven't given a chance to non-NES Mega Man games, so my list would go:

MM2 = MM9 > MM1 > MM4 > MM3 > MM6 > MM5
I'm putting MM2 on equal grounds with MM9 because MM2 had such great levels, robot masters, and music, but I just felt it was too easy. MM9 also had great levels, RMs, and music, but was also tough as nails.

Most definitely Mega Man 2. It was my first Mega Man game, and I haven't played a better one yet.

I think it was the fact that they released it on the SNES when they already had a superior (and shinier) Mega Man series on the system. I'd take Mega Man X over many of the classic games. :3

Also, it just never clicked with me. I'm not entirely sure why, but...I just don't really like it.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

The first six are all the same to me. 7 or 8 are both pretty different from each other, and from the first 6, so those are my favorites. 8 is probably better than 7 I think.

It's because the final Wily fight is EVIL INCARNATE!

I'm with you on MM3....even though it is one of the best in the franchise, for some reason i'm not too crazy about it at the same time. i think because it's not colorful or vibrant as MM2 was....Snake Man's stage was my favorite, along with Shadow Man's and maybe Spark man's...but the rest to me were a bore for the most part. Again, the slowdown was annoying. music wasn't as good, and what was capcom thinking making all of the robot masters blue and ornage(besides snake man)? where was the variety? and wow were those MM2 Driod Bosses sloppy and frusturating to face off against, definitly the hardest part of the game. Anyways MM3 has a love hate relationship with me. i'm turned off by it's darker less colorful vibe, and crappy robot masters ;p

Really though, the only MM game that comes close or has almost the same vibe as MM2 is MM9. From the music, bosses, color scheme ect, capcom nailed it....But really, The most creative Capcom got was with Air Man's stage. those floating Red heads with the drills looked awesome. Wood Man's stage was fantastic as well, and Bubble man's was my favorite. That beautiful waterfall with the frogs and that music....damn was it good, fits the stage perfectly. splash womens got a great beat as well, but bubble man definitly owns it ;p

I downloaded MM 2 from VC and I love it, played less other snes/nes m's in the past though less ledgit methods but thats just not the same and anyway MM 2 is by far the best ive played by a mile (not play mm 9 though).

There is that, too. Not an enjoyable boss battle at all, which is why I've only beaten it once.

So do you prefer Mega Man & Bass Over MM7?
I've only played the Intro stage and Cold Man's Stage with both Mega Man and Bass. And so far, it feels alittle less Mega Man-y compared to the NES games, and basically ressembles MM8 in ways...yet MM & Bass doesn't have that ambient music or horrible Voice overs ;p It seems pretty tough too actually which is a good thing....The thing is though, is that I have a GBA SP and a DS Lite....The game's color and brightness looks so much better on the DS Lite, but what's annoying about playing it on the DS Lite is that the DS has smaller buttons which I dont like. Basically for me, it's much better to look at on the DSLite, but it's more fun to play on the GBA because of the bigger and clickier buttons.....argh ;p But that's a different story all together who really gives a damn ;p

Mostly because it was the only one I beat, but than again, the only reason why I beat it was because I liked it enough to put up with it. I liked the stages, bosses, and Wily stages, and I loved looking for alternate paths so I could find those other items. It has been a while since I played it, but I do remember liking it very, very much.

Just remember that Wood Man paved the way for other lame shield-based weapons - Skull Man, Flower Man, Jewel Man, etc. What a jackass.
