Hi, I have had Mario Party games in the past and really liked them. I am looking to buy a couple. Which would you recommend? From what I've seen 3 and 4 seem to be the best bets.
@bassoongoon My favorites are Mario Party 2-4. I'd recommend those. If you wanted to buy another Mario Party apart from 2-4, then I'd recommend 5 and 6.

@Moorpheel I completely forgot about the handheld Mario Party games, lol. @bassoongoon My recommendation revised: Mario Party 2, 3, 4, or DS
If you prefer others, I'd recommend 5 or 6.

I don't have a DS anymore, or know anyone that has MPDS, so I think I won't get that one. I'll have to consider 5 as well. Personally I didn't really like MP6 when I played it. I've played 2-7, I think 3-5 were my favorites, although I can't remember whether I liked 4 or 5 better.

Well, if you get a 3DS, MPDS is a very good on-the-go Mario Party (considering the other two portable options are too different from classic mario party). At least here they still sell it on stores.
That one is not even a proper Mario Party game.
The main game is literally entirely minigames. You pick one of (I think) four characters who start on different places on the map. You have only so many dice rolls and you have to try to get around the map and finish as many minigames as possible. When you run out you lose.
I think there were a few multiplayer minigames but they required either passing the GBA between players or everyone huddles together and pushes one button each.
The only "normal" mode only used the GBA as a dice and you had to actually move your players around a paper game board that was originally included in the box.

I'll end up buying the 2DS. I'm not a fan of the 3D graphics, and the 3DS clamshell screen does not seem sturdy. I plan to buy the 2DS some time before Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire come out.
I think the 3DS Mario Party is atrocious. I usually dig Mario Party, and can even enjoy myself playing Single Player mode, but not with that one. Most of the boards weren't worth trying more than once. I get that they wanted pick up and go, but they should have at least some maps that would be good for extended play. Just include a save between turns feature that was included in virtually every other Mario Party ever.
A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.
I misread Moorpheel's post. I thought he was recommending the 3DS MP, but now I see he was talking about the DS one. I'll back him up there. The DS one was good.

That was my favorite part of that game! I always had a lot of fun with that 'real' board game.
I haven't played it in over a decade but 3 was easily my favorite growing up. 6 is probably the only one I liked even close to as much as the N64 ones though.
kkslider, I liked 3 a lot too. I had it on my 64 when I was younger. I'll buy it for my current 64 if I can find it for under $35, but it tends to be pretty pricey.
If you can get over its unbalanced gameplay, 1 is good. 2 is where they polished it up to be a little more balanced. 3 is pretty unique.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
