Hello fellow Nintendo gamers
I am living in EU and I want to import a US SNES to be able to play the original Super Mario RPG. (not interested in any kind of modding etc.)
However I'm kind of lost, regarding how to make sure the US SNES is properly connected in terms of power and video-signal.
To my knowledge, on a PAL SNES the best video quality is achieved via a SNES SCART RGB cable.
But I guess I cannot just use the same cable for the US SNES?
What about the power, how do I connect the US SNES to the standard EU 230V?
Do you prefer to use your old retro consoles in combination with a CRT TV?
Thank you for your help.

For S-Video, I would get the original brick American SNES model rather than the newer one. The latter doesn't have a S-Video port, so you're stuck with AV (composite) cable as your best option.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to get it on Wii? That way you can use component cables on a newer TV if you don't have CRT.

I used to use these with my SNES (PAL) and the same cable worked for N64 and possibly Gamecube too....
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.
You can also use a PAL NES or SNES power supply I think.
I REALLY doubt that. Nintendo made the NES power supply not fit (I think, but regardless IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE with SNES. It outputs AC rather than DC, which only the NES, original and toploader, are designed to take). I can't even use my SNES power supply on my AV Famicom, even though they should, in theory, be compatible (I know the Famicom and Super Famicom shared AC adapters.)
I don't have a PAL console, so I don't know but I would doubt Nintendo would leave the plug alone if they bothered to change it between FC and NTSC SNES.

Oh, that's right. However, you CAN use a PAL SNES power supply on the PAL NES, but not the other way arround. This is because the NES converts the AC to DC internally, so you can use a DC adapter as well.
I assume the NTSC SNES uses the same voltage and amps as the PAL SNES, so if it has the same plug you should be able to use a PAL SNES power supply.
Thanks for all your answers. Its really apreciated.
To summarize everything, and please correct me if im wrong, I think this is what I need to get a fully working setup:
1. In terms of power, I need a stepdown-converter to convert the EUR 230V to US 110V - OR I suppose I could use one of these speciel desgined powersuplies, which is designed to fit a US SNES but with a european plug: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271455149752?_trksid=p2055119.m1438...
2. In terms of the video signal, I need a NTSC compatible TV (CRT preferable). And to get the best videosignal, I should use one of those NTSC SNES RGB Scart cables mentioned by GanonDorf. Actually I didn't thought that RGB Scart and an NTSC signal worked together? This means, that an NTSC compatible tv should be able to receive an NTSC signal through the SCART port?
wrong. (I use a PAL SNES with the switchless mod. Which required messing around with the Gamecube cable).
It looks like the USA SNES can use the official PAL Gamecube cable. (But it still should have that mod). Don't think there is a solution other than paying somebody to do it.
