I received my NES classic yesterday and couldnt wait to get home and bust it out. its a beautiful thing and i am really enjoying it ,but there are sound issues. i have so far only discovered this with Kirby which in my opinion is one of the best games on the system. The sound emulation is choppy and basically very poor, music drops in and out especially on the over world map stages and bonus rounds.

Anybody esle found this issue or with any of the other games?

@YANDMAN No one else seems to be reporting that kind of issue. I would suspect the unit, tv, or hdmi cable. I've had hdmi issues with other equipment in the past, including picture and sound dropout. Hope you find a quick and easy fix.

No one else is reporting because no one else has it

I am having the same issue. I tried swapping HDMI cables and ports on the TV to no avail. Because it was just released today I will likely try to live with it for a couple of days and see what knowledge comes out about it on the internet. Then return it to gamestop if it is just a bad console.

My symptoms manifest as sound cut outs every 10 or so seconds. There will be 10 seconds or so of good sound, then the sound will drop out for about 2 seconds and then come back. Interestingly, this does not happen if I simply let the main screen menu run. The sound will be consistent until I am in a game. This leads me to believe it is a problem with the processing power or memory.

At first I thought it might be built in for comedy sake based on similar problems on the original console, but now I don't think so.

In my experience, certain devices don't get along with certain TVs via HDMI. I have a cable box that doesn't like my particular Samsung TV through HDMI. It's a known issue in that case and why I like having component as an option. Either the audio or video just gave up one day. Switching to component fixed my problem, but that's irrelevant here. That's why my first inclination is for those having the problem to try a completely different TV, if possible. Might also be a good idea to compare notes on which TV models are involved to see if any patterns develop.

My sound was not working at all. I tried a new hdmi cable and it worked perfectly. I called Nintendo and they are sending me a new cable. That might solve your problem!

My sound isn't working either. I have a Samsung TV. Tried a different HDMI cable and the Nintendo provided one in 4 different ports. I wasn't the only one that called today about this issue but they couldn't solve it so they sent a return label for repair. Really disapointing. I'm also waiting and watching to see if anyone figures it out or has similar issues.

Update: Tested my Nintendo HDMI cable with another device and it was good. Also TV was already set to PCM as someone suggested. So looks like a bad NES. Wish I had a 2nd TV to test and make it official.

Hi! We had this same issue with our Vizio flat screen. Kirby and all the Mario Bros games had glitchy sounds. The other games sounded fine. Switching to a different HDMI cable didn't work. To fix the problem go the TV settings, then check the audio settings. Switch the Digital Audio setting to PCM. The Analog Audio setting should be at "Fixed". Once our TV had these settings the sound was perfect. The HDMI and USB were both plugged into TV. Hope that helps! 😊

Same problems I've used 3 different hdmi chords in 3 different ports on my tv but they aren't working. It was working for awhile then when I came home from work it wasn't anymore. I tried putting in the hdmi Nintendo sent but that isn't working either. Hope the console isn't defective!

I've got the same problem. Music cuts in and out randomly. I changed Digital Sound from Auto to PCM and that didn't fix it. I also set it to fixed and that didn't work either. The only way I got it to work was to route sound through the crappy built-in TV speakers and not through my sound bar. Really bummed about this.

I've got a repair ticket to send this to Nintendo but don't know if this is just the way its built or if mine actually has a problem.

So have other people gotten their sound to work by switching to PCM with a soundbar or other tuner?

Hi all! My last directions didn't work. When I turned the TV back on we had the sound problems again with the NES. The only way I could get the sound working was to not use our sound bar and get sound through TV speakers. After spending almost an hour with 2 different people From Vizio here is what I was told to do. IT WORKED! (Even the next day and after tv has been turned off)Also I was told too many HDMI cables plugged in can cause interference which may have been responsible for sound issues. I kept my TV settings the same as my last post (Digital at PCM and Analog at Fixed).
1. Make sure TV, sound bar and NES are turned off. Disconnect HDMI cable that is connecting soundbar and TV
2. Find the red, white and black cable that came with the soundbar or TV. (Red and white on one end, black on the other end)and plug in white cord to white outlet at back of TV and red cord to red outlet at back of TV. (audio out section) find the other plain black plug and plug to aux 2 in the sound bar.
3. Press the input button on sound bar (arrow pointing to inside of box) for eight seconds and the sound will come on. Also you can go on the Vizio remote and scroll through input until you see AUX 2 and hear sound)
4. Make sure the HDMI and usb cables for the NES are plugged into TV. Turn on everything and test the NES to see if sound is working regularly. If this doesn't work follow the next steps (5-6) to reset sound bar
5. To reset the sound bar, take out batteries from sound bar remote. Press each button twice. Put batteries back in.
6. Unplug sound bar. Then hold power button down for 30 seconds. Let go and plug sound bar back in. Press power button on the sound bar to turn on

HOPE THAT HELPS!

I am having the same issue. I have 3 TVs in my house. My main one - a 55" 4k Samsung. When I plug my NES into this - the picture is blurry and no sound. However when I plug it into my other two TVs (Samsungs from around 2010, it works perfectly and looks great. Replaced HDMI cables and everything with no luck. It isn't just the sound for me - the picture is blurry. Anyone else having this issue ?

Yep. The NES Classic definitely has sound glitches in it's audio.

Just another reason why you can't beat original hardware. :3
