These new Wiiware games made to resemble the good old days of gaming always bring a smile to my face. Stuff Like Konami's Rebirth series, Capcom's Mega Man 9 and 10 as well as the new Sonic 4. It's really hard to find kids who can appreciate these type of oldschool games. In todays world where Graphics are the biggest selling point to the youth of the current generation. I'm soo glad I was raised in the early days when games were games. Most kids today probably take one look at old stuff and go.... Yuck what garbage is that you're playing?

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Other than that, no, all the younger kids in my family only value graphics and violence when it comes to games. It's a shame, really, but it's their loss...
"Don't make enemies, they'll stab your heart; don't make friends, they'll stab your back. Including me, including you, all men are trash. Don't love; don't be loved. Have nothing to do with other; live in isolation."
I think that perhaps graphics played a role in how much we liked the games of old more than we like to admit. Sonic's big pull, for instance, was his speed, of course, which implies that the SNES did not have the graphical capabilities to make games with such quick animation and processing. When you were a kid, say you had an NES, would you have seriously invested yourself in an Atari 2600 game even if someone who enjoyed it in its heydey told you how great it was? What about a text-based computer game?
Silly developers, why are you taking advantage of the graphical capabilities of the systems we have in this day? Shame on you. Obviously the youth of today are worse off because their games aren't 2D. How are they ever supposed to grow up and be great like there forefathers?
I honestly don't care; the less I'm bothered by my family when playing anything the better.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Nope. There too cool for 2-D And my Older Bro thinks the same way about 2-D or Classic games.
It just that most people Think that, when a game is 3D, it better. 2D<3D Sometimes, it not always true.

It's not just kids, it's also some people of my own generation (20+) that have fallen to this tendency. Much like with books, movies, paintings and any other form of art, we need to teach kids to respect the classics in order to truly appreciate what makes new games great.
Sadly the kids that I know just tend to talk about Call of Duty and whatever War-themed game they're going bug eyed over which is insanely sad...Yet when I showed my 2 younger cousin smy Wii they loved it. They were playing Super Smash Bros Brawl, a few VC games like Super Mario Bros 2 and 3 and some others. They were going ape nuts over brawl haha, button mashing to no end!
And right before they left they were jumping up and down asking their dad if they could get a Wii, let alone their mom used to love Nintendo and she's pro at the original Super Mario Bros.....Honestly though, this whole War/Shooter BS is just some stupid trend for these kids to act like they're hardcore or that they can look cool or be 'the man'....When really deep down the true kid in them wants the vibrant colors, the surrealness, the imagination, the whimsical nature of it all, they wan't NINTENDO.lol At least that's how i am! haha.
You, my friend, are a genius. You are so right, I was just going to say about how COD is ruining gamers, and more people should respect Nintendo and classic games. I, myself, am 13 years old, and while unfortunately I haven't yet had the chance to play classics like SMB, I appreciate them, and I don't dismiss them because of the graphics (I actually find 8-bit and 16-bit games very appealing to look at). I'm also dying to get some VC when I get a Wii. Classic gaming FTW!

Yes, that is so true. There are people who dislike there own generation of gaming, (like my big Bro) I'm 20 years old, and I sometimes go back to playing some past Gen games.
There some past games that still look great today, by there art style and gameplay. Those game are ahead of there time.

way to assume the worst about today's generation... there are plenty of kids on these forums here and now who appreciate the games we grew up with as kids ourselves. yeah, most other kids who aren't heavily into games might not go for the classic stuff now, but as they age into adulthood and their tastes mature they'll gradually gravitate toward the classics. it's just like TV, books, or other forms of entertainment. It's not worth getting worked up over just because a 12-year-old turns their nose up at what you may personally consider a retro masterpiece.
honestly, there is no teaching to be done here... you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. move on and play the games you like, don't worry about what anyone else thinks about 'em.
