I keep thinking about getting one, but there isn't much point when I plan to build a new desktop during the summer.

Hmmmm, I guess I'm having trouble running Half Life 2. I've downloaded it to my external hard drive, clicked play, then a message popped up saying that my video card is unsupported and that I may have trouble running it. I then continued anyway, and the Valve logo popped up, then the one for Source, and then I got a screen of a city with a box in the bottom right hand corner saying loading. The city was blurry. I just left it for a few second, and then an error message popped up saying that the memory couldn't be read or something. What should I do?

EDIT: This was the message I got: The instruction at 0x1438247f referenced memory at 0x121bb018,the memory couldn't be read

Weird. I have one of the expansion packs for Lara Croft: GOL even though I never bought it. Is this some promotion or is it just a weird service mess-up?

Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar.

@Xkhaoz: Where do you have Steam installed? If it is not installed on your external HD, then you will be required to follow this guide.

@V8: Something about it will probably show up on either general discussion or the Lara Croft forums. If it is a mistake, don't count on being able to keep it

@Ravage It was a mistake.

@V8 Are you talking about DLC #2, the challenge pack? Everyone on Steam gets that for free with the purchase of LC:GoL. Apparently the other packs went to the XBLA and PSN versions of the game. More DLC packs (including the XBLA and PSN ones) will be released later.

@HolyMackerel Yes, and on a restart of Steam, it says that I have the 2nd DLC pack. Thanks for notifying me of that. I probably wouldn't have tried restarting Steam if I didn't see your post.

It's definetelly installed on the external. I DLed Puzzle Quest, and it's working fine, I don't think it's the drive.

Well, I think I'll just download Lost Coast and see if that works. But what's weird, is that Lost Coast started at 50% already downloaded. Why is this?

HolyMackerel

It's because part of the download for a lot of Valve games includes the Source Engine. If you have any other Source games (Half Life 2, Portal, TF2, etc.) then you already have the engine downloaded.

Xkhaoz

@HolyMackerel That's what I thought. That's pretty cool.

Lost Coast doesn't want to download for some reason
EDIT: Never mind, it's working now
EDIT again: Lost Coast works, or at least the title screen, haven't played it yet. Dunno why HL2 isn't working, though.

I never did play Lost Coast... Is it worth playing through?

It's just a tech demo - and an old one now. Basically it just showed off the Source Engine back when it was new. You're not missing anything.

You get it for free with the Orange Box.

So I just bought Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and so far it has been a great game. I have only played the multiplayer and obviously I suck in it . I'll try the single player later.
