Half Life 1 and 2 definitely. Wolfenstein :The new order was spectacular as well, and is a really good mix of the best of old and new shooters. The old blood is OK, but The New Order was brilliant. I hope DOOM is as good as it.

I don't play many shooters, so I'm struggling to recall any others.

I'd say Splatoon definitely counts, yeah. The only one I'm iffy on is Mass Effect, but by 3, the RPG elements were so toned down I kinda forgot it wasn't just a straight shooter.
