Hmmmmm. Somehow Im not interested. I do admit it is a good move. But still not convinced. It wont sell too much here, but it will do good in japan. Im pretty sure almost everyone who wants an HD console has one, and doesnt really want the other anyways
I'd love one, but I can't justify repurchasing that console, despite my love for it....it may be my "second" blu-ray player or maybe I can con the roommate into thinking he needs one as well?

Hopefully 1st gen PS3 will get cheaper on ebay now aswell... Cause that's the only version I'd actually consider.
I have one, backwards compatible. I don't know if it's fully or not, but I have never had it fail for PS2 or PS1 games. Not sure if I want to sell it yet, but how much would you be willing to pay for one?
I really need to cut back on video game spending, but the compulsive buyer in me is curious anyway. Just in case.
I've always thought that backwards compatibility was a nice theory but was rather useless in practice. The fact that my Wii can play GC games is cool...but I can count on one hand the amount of times I've actually played GC games instead of Wii games in it. And normally they were games like the Zelda pre-order disc or Megaman X collection, which is basically just a cheap way of not having to buy VC games. I haven't touched my PS2 since I bought my PS3...not cause the games are bad or anything...but I have a PS3! I'm gonna play PS3 games with it. Plus it's been rumored for a while now that they're gonna software-update the PS3 and give it PS2 emulation capabilities. I dunno how true that'll turn out to be, but that'd be a nice middle ground. Still though, buying an artificially-expensive, old, low-HD-space model of the ps3 just to play games that don't look nearly as good on it....I dunno.

I'm going to get an early PS3 now, unless these are confirmed to have true PS2 backwards compatibility. Reasons? a) They'll be cheaper now. b) The logical thing to take out is that behemoth of a fan in there, meaning more of an overheating risk. I don't want an overheating system, if I did, I'd get a 360.

......why?
Cause I really like to be to keep playing my PS1 and PS2 games but I hate memory cards... And also I'm hoping that one of these days some modder might crack the PS3 infrastructure and through that enable region free backwards capability and it's a much higher chance that that will actually work flawlessly if it's hardware emulated compatibility than software. And at that point I'll be able shelf my PS2 permanently as well as all those damn memory cards... I mean, I understand if people might not understand my reasoning here, but this is important to me. I know, I'm quirky.

Well, since it's used I'm thinking less than the initial launch price... But I'd be alright with paying the current retail + shipping, so that you could basically take what I payed you and go out and buy yourself a brand new slim if you wanted. As long as it's the one with the Emotion Engine processor and the whole shebang (so no software emulated backwards capability)... and, you know, working I'm definitely interested.
About time it's official! I'm more than happy with my PS3 so I definitely am not going to get the slim but my sister has been wanting a ps3 for her new HDTV! I still like the original design a lot better though.
Not at the moment. I have lots of Wii and 360 games to play, so no hurry. I hope for even bigger pricedrops. Eventually it will reach as low as 200 euro, but it will take some years...
