Hopefully 1st gen PS3 will get cheaper on ebay now aswell... Cause that's the only version I'd actually consider.

how do you know if the slim has backwards compatability or not?
I don't, but I figured they'd mention it if it had... If it does, I'm pretty sure it's only software and still very much region locked... But if it isn't... I'm sure I'd learn that before the end of GamesCom... But my guess is no...
You guys have no idea as to how happy I am right now! I am a Nintendo fanboy at heart but ever since PS2 I am loving Sony as well just not as much as to pay $500 for their system nearly 3 years ago. With $299 it's more affordable.
It says CECHA01 at the end, so I guess it is. And it's a 60GB. Got at launch and never had a single problem with it. I'll have to get back to you once I know more about the Slim though. If they have indeed gotten rid of the fan like someone said, I might stay away from it. Still, if the PS3 is going to last as long as Sony wants it to, I am definitely going to run out of space (PSN is awesome, especially with the PS Classics), so I'm not sure I have any better options. Hmm.... I will get back to you!
Sweet! Harddrive size probably won't be as big a problem for me cause even while I like downloadable games (Flower!), I already own most PS1 games that I want so that part won't be a problem.
BTW though, about those downloaded games... Are they tied to the system or ones PSN account? Like if you send me your PS3, will I get all those games too. Cause that sounds like it could get messy... Don't wanna cheat you out of your games you know?
It's about time they announced it... I've been hearing everywhere about this for like a month and a half or so. There was even pictures and retail catologs as proof and they still did't say anything. I guess they have to stick to thier plan.
For $300 and backwards compatibility, I would definitely consider getting a PS3 over a 360. I don't have an HD tv, so Blue Ray is useless to me at the moment...I still play a lot of old playstation games.
It's tied to the account. Otherwise I wouldn't even think about it. I've spent more on downloads than retail games.
Well, I thought maybe you'd switch the harddrives or something like that but then the whole thing with upgrading to a system with a bigger one, that would be a bit useless. Figured that it was the PSN account though, even though that seems incredibly abusable. Using the same account to download a game to X number of consoles... Maybe one have to be logged in to use the games but still... Oh well, not my problem...
This really is great news and this price cut was long overdue! I like the look of the new slim model and the fact that you get a 120GB system for only $299 is fantastic but since I already have a 60GB model with full backwards compatibility I have no reason to get the slim. That and the fact that I have a good amount of games already downloaded onto my system. I am really excited about the firmware 3.0 update that is coming early September! This is a good day for Sony fans!
I saw the PS3 Slim and firmware 3.00 update videos on YouTube! That thing is smaller than I expected and the firmware update looks awesome!!! About time we get some new Avatars. I love how you can see how many messages and friends are online in the upper right hand corner. And PS3s have finally dropped to $299 today! Yes, WolfRamHeart, it is a good day for Sony fans!
