To sum it up it's Blizzard's take on the MOBA (Mutiplayer Online Battle Area) game that was made famous by games like DotA and League of Legends though Blizzard likes to call it a hero brawler.
I have been playing it for a month now and have never played an MOBA before this but I will say I am having a blast with HotS. It reminds me of an RTS game without all the micro managing. Gameplay is very fast past and rounds last about 30 mins.
Anyway if you are in the beta or just generally interested in this game talk about it here.

I haven't played any MOBA's yet, but from watching TB's video on this game it might be an interesting place to start. The shorter matches in particular sounds more like it.
Yeah I will admit that HotS is very noob friendly both game wise and player wise.

I feel like Heroes of the Storm is a silly name. Mostly because Blizzard already has Heart of the Swarm, and that's what I think of whenever someone say HotS.
Anyway, after months of losing SC2 players to LoL and Dota2, interested to see how this turns out too.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
I signed up but have yet to get in. I like a lot of their ideas: several unique maps, no gold, shared experience, branching skill paths, shorter playtime. The heroes don't look interesting, but I haven't played the games they come from or given them a detailed look. Very excited to try.
Wait this isn't a WoW expansion? Damn. Could've played this at PAX...
No Heroes of the Storm is another game by Blizzard separate of WoW. It does have WoW characters in it but it also has Diablo and Starcraft characters as well. It is basically Blizzard's take on MOBA.
The WoW expansion is Warlords of Draenor.

So how foes this play in relation to Lol and dota2.
Well to answer the first part of your question it will be a while till Titan comes out. The last thing I heard was that they scrapped what they had and decided to go in another direction. They moved most of the developers to Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm and have a very small group working on it now. So yeah its going to be awhile, to me it sounds like Diablo III all over again.
As far as how does this play compared to LoL or DotA 2 well I can't really give an opinion cause I have never played either of them but from what I have heard from others is that matches are alot quicker, the UI is more noob friendly basically its for people who want to get into an MOBA and aren't an elitist like LoL or DotA players tend to be or don't have the time to sink into the other two. Basically it's more of a casual MOBA.

If they're trying to be non-elitist, I hope they figure out a way to keep the games still competitive without making the players resort to newbie bashing. That's probably one of the bigger barriers of entry to the MOBA genre, it's hard to keep playing (and thus practise and get better) when the rest of your team completely hates you.

Well for one thing they do have a single player mode were its you with computer controlled allies VS computer control opponents. Also they have added a Custom Games options where you can custom a game session to more likely and can include people or AI heroes, so if you only have say 3 friends you can fill in the other spots with AI heroes, also as the creator of a custom game you can kick people if they are jerks. Still I have played a few rounds with random people and I haven't ran into any people who think they are elitists and talk down to people who mess up.

So they have now opened the Beta to Australia and New Zealand now so if you are in any of those countries and are interested you can now sign up for a chance to get into the Alpha.
I got in. Very fun. I quite enjoy playing Tyrael of this week's free champs. Not a League replacement for me, but something I can enjoy alongside it for the uniqueness. And unlike other MOBAs it is simple enough that I don't feel I need to devote hundreds of hours to be decent.

That's how I felt about it, although this is my first foray into the MOBA genre. I love the fact that I dont have to put in a bunch of time into it for it to be fun and its easy enough to jump in play a few rounds and then leave cause of work or something.

Let's be straight on this: I LOVE Blizzard's games. Love them. I've been playing World of Warcraft for years, Starcraft, Hearthstone ... you name it.
But I'm really not impressed by this one. Now, this is coming from a Dota player, but the pay scheme seems like a flagrant money pit. You're only given a few characters for free; the rest you have to buy, and it's pretty slow going if you're going to do it with the in-game currency. The gameplay, to me, doesn't have the gritty tactical feel like Dota - it's more of a "plow ahead, spam all your skills and pray you have the highest numbers" kind of thing. There are no items, but there is a lot of customization in trait paths, so you theoretically can play every game differently. There are different modes and different maps, and these sort of mini events pop up as you are playing that add some variety.
Put all that together, and it feels a bit too trigger-happy and hectic for me. I know I'm going to keep playing it from time to time, but it hasn't taken my focus away from Dota at all, so that's saying something. But these are just my opinions!
