Hey, I was one of those guys at one point.

I think kids tend to be more tolerant of game flaws. I know I was as a kid.

I didn't expect you to be...being someone who may have had a Mega Drive/SNES. XD

Yeah, that's true...but we had no bad VAs then either...

I played Sonic on the Genesis back in the day, but Sonic Adventure 2 was what really made me a gamer. I loved Shadow especially, because I liked his anti-social, "I have my own agenda" attitude. It made him more real to me.

And while I agree with the VAs in video games...as someone who grew up watching anime during the 90's...again, kids can be more tolerant of that stuff.

Ah, Crash Bandicoot. I think the series was an important one for Naughty Dog, if only to help them find their footing and get some notoriety as a developer, but other than that it was a rather pointless series. I can see why people like the old Crash games; Mario 64 alienated some people because it was so open-ended and spacious. Crash felt very much like a 2D platformer, but in 3D--very linear, lots of stuff to collect. But that, to me, is why it felt pointless. It didn't really do anything better than any other platforming series, 2D or 3D. The whole thing kind of lacked sincerity. It felt like a response to Mario 64, rather than something the developers truly wanted to make because they believed in the character and concept.

And you can tell, because the Uncharted series does feel like a labor of love, and it shows.

Ah I see, that makes sense.

Crash was pretty pointless, but I liked the Sonic concept to it (different routes but merely going on higher platforms for a few secrets), and you can tell that an ex-Sonic Team member has used that concept from their Sonic 2 experience.

Then you've never played a Crash game.

Agreed, play the 2nd and 3rd ones...the first one not only hasn't aged well...but the controls are frustratingly awkward when the first game is as hard as nails anyway.

For me, the best Crash game in the series was the original. It had good and challenging level design. The 2nd one widened up the levels a bit and added a few new moves, but for me it still didn't have the charm of the first game.

Really? I think it has/had more charm...plus number 2 expanded on the first one in every way, better gameplay, visuals, saving system, level design, story, bosses...

I played the first three Crash games on the Playstation and they were solid platformers. It's too bad that like Spyro the Dragon, his games aren't the same anymore.

That's likely because Insomniac (Spyro) and Naughty Dog (Crash) have moved on to other, bigger franchises. And with Insomniac converting to multi-platform (TRAITORS!) and the immense popularity of the Uncharted series, it's very likely that we'll never see a true return-to-form of these classic franchises.

But as Mickeymac wrote, if a talented developer such as Ready at Dawn got their hands on either franchise, it would be a guaranteed success.

These were the good ol' days. Crash, Spyro, Gex, Mario, Ray-Man, Sly, Jak...oh the good ol days.
