This whole Sonic thing. He's not dead. The last 10 years have not been filled with sheer hedgehog-flavoured bile that makes Ninjabread Man look like a shining AAA title in comparison, as at least 90% of the internet would seem to like you to believe. So let's please just get this straight, once and for all. OK, sure, his 3D games do not stand up to his 2D games of the past. Does that mean that they're bad games? No. Just not as good. Which is an entirely different thing. Sonic The Hedgehog '06 and Shadow The Hedgehog are indeed probably the bottom of the pile. The former being a massive 'Loading' fest and the latter being possibly the most ridiculous concept for a game in Sega's history. But let's look past those low points. The rest are, by any normal person's standards, good games. Certainly they have their issues. Big sucks, Werehog sucks, and a fair chunk (but again not all) of the supporting cast sucks, but the rest? Fine. Good. Even great at points. Let's take a quick trip through his Wii titles. Secret Rings? I dare anyone to play through any of the levels once they're above about Lv30 and not love it. It's a bit crap to start with when you have no decent Ring Skills, sure. That's its major Achilles' heel, but once you're past that it is a damn fantastic, fast-paced game. And look, there's nothing here but Sonic doing what he does best. Running from A to B as fast as possible. Isn't that a good thing? Riders: Zero Gravity? Again, requires patience. It takes some getting used to the controls and the game mechanics are definately strange when you first start. And I'd seriously suggest playing it with a GC controller rather than the Wiimote. But once you're over that hurdle it's a pretty damn good racer and fantastic in multiplayer. All the irritations from Riders 1 have been kicked out too. Air has been replaced with gravity control, which not only does away with the "you have to run if you run out of air" thing, but also makes for some seriously sweet hairpin cornering and boosts. The graphics are also fantastic for Wii, check those rippling reflecting water effects. Unleashed? Night stages, yeah. I'd like them gone too. And yeah, sucks that the daytime stages are only about 35% of the game. But the daytime stages are properly great. There's little more satisfying than blasting through the level and finding the little shortcuts to shave seconds off your time to grab those S-Ranks. And, y'know, it feels like Sega have remembered what Sonic's actually about. For example, Eggman has gone from his SRS BSNSS persona of the GC era back to the bandy-armed exaggerated madman of the cartoons of yore. His cutscenes are hilarious. Black Knight? Not actually played this one, but I definitely intend to. As far as I'm aware it's basically Secret Rings but with a dodgy sword mechanic instead of a dodgy level-up mechanic. Apart from that the game looks... pretty good.
Look, the thing is this. Back in the nineties, Sonic had the slogon "the hedgehog with attitude." I'd propose his post-2000 slogon to be "great with patience." His games are almost all good, provided you stick at it for more than an hour or so. That's his main flaw. The hedgehog isn't dead, far from it. I'm sick of people going BAWW ALL THE NEW SONIC GAMES ARE THE WORST THINGS EVER THEY SHOULD ALL BE BURNT because at the end of the day, there are far, far, FAR worse titles out there. You aren't wasting money buying a Sonic game. I'll finish on my first point. These are not crap games by any standards, just not as good as the originals. Now can we please all stop the relentless bashing about whatever his next adventure turns out to be, be it Needlemouse or Sega Allstars Racing, or a different title before then?

Sonic games are okay (not ZOMG teh best thing evar!!!), but I might change my mind on that if I hear the ultra annoying term "Eggmanland" one more time.
Secret Rings got bad rep and it's actually a good game, no no, erase that, a great game. The other games... meh, with the exception of a couple of psp releases.
I agree with WhoKnew, the Rush titles definitely were good. But as for the 3-D, you say that they're great with patience. We should have to be patient. Yes they definitely have good points, but we don't want to just sit there waiting, "Oh, I can't wait until this gets good!" We want it awesome all the time.
Oh, and to counter one of your last points, there's a difference between those far worse titles and Sonic games. People expect Sonic games to be good but unfortunately Sonic has not been delivering these last few years.
I also have this weird deal with people calling Sonic "dead", especially when they use games like Zero G and the on-rails Wii Sonic titles. My argument is that people are trying to blame Sonic of being bad using SPIN-OFF games as their preferable punching bag of choice. First of all, IT'S A SPIN-OFF. It's not meant to be a cannon game at all, just an experimental game with Sonic characters in it. Second, why are the you people trying to say that the whole series is bad because of some unimportant spin-off? It just makes no sense to me. I also have to agree with you on the whole "that games aren't bad" thing. But to the rest of the people out there, here's some piece of mind; 2D Sonic is better than 3D Sonic. I will always believe that and if any of you want to convince me otherwise, I'll have to ninja-murder you. But does that mean that the 3D sonic games are bad? One simple answer; NO. Most (ACTUAL) hardcore gamers are like Nintendo fanboys when it comes to Sonic. We outright DEMAND that our Sonic games are about speed and nothing else, and if we don't get what we want, then we'll trash the game non-stop just to make sure we get our point across. We need to review a game based off of what's in the game, not what it doesn't have.
END OF THE RANT!!!
