Confirmed. It's available to preorder physically from Best Buy already.

You'll have to hope they print more copies than they did on the Wii then. Cos that version never fell in price.

The Wii version was a Gamestop exclusive in North America.

Conversely, the Switch release will be nationwide, from multiple sources.

Availability a year later will be a non-issue.

@Magician

It wasn't in Europe though. They just didn't print many copies and you could never find it below the release price.

This game literally turned a somewhat decent Nintendo Direct into an awesome one for me! I've wanted to play this game for so long but didn't want to dig very deep to grab a physical copy. I'm glad that I didn't cave to the digital Wii U eShop version now.

I've never played this before - it's been on my wishlist for some time ever since playing XCX - but I have ran across some of the music on YouTube. Mechanical Rhythm, Mechonis Field, and Central Factory are arguably my favorite tracks.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

It's worth pointing out for anyone who hasn't played this before like @Tyranexx, you can play XC2 before XC1.
They are connected but they happen kinda alongside one another, so it doesn't matter which order you play them in.

I'll be double-dipping as well. Only issue I ever had with the game were its graphics, but what I saw in the trailer was gorgeous. I definitely can't wait, I still consider the original to be far and away the best in the series, and one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

Loved XC2, so I'm looking forward to playing this....

I love this game, but after the Xenoblade 2 DLC, Tales of Vesperia, FF9, FF10, and Fire Emblem this year alone I'm starting to get RPG burnout.

Or at least I will have once I've finished FF7, FF12, Nino Kuni, Dragon Quest and Pokemon.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Oddly enough, this was the only game I was able to beat...I don't know why, but I kept losing interest on X. I lost interest even faster on XC2, if X ever shows up I might give that game another try.

That said, I missed playing as Rikki, and I need my Xenoblade waifu back...Melia. lol

oh yeah, new content apparently...I didn't catch that

The Gamexplain comparison makes it clear they have pretty much redone everything. Even just the rock wall textures are improved. They've even added more polygons to the environments (see the Fallen Arm scene)

@Joeynator3000

You really should try XC2 again. Things really pick up in the second half. The entire last third of the game is brilliant imo. It also ends up being related to XC1 in an interesting way that you'll appreciate if you played XC1 (they were pretty much just lying when they said it's a completely new story). So if you don't play it, at least go and watch through all the cutscenes.

I'm unsure about the new style. I'm very glad we're getting the game in HD (that was overdue even when the game first released!), but strangely enough I'm not as keen on the anime aesthetic as I am the original style (strange, as I love the style of e.g. Three Houses, Persona and Tales series).

Definite day 1 purchase and play for me though. I bought this on Wii U and New 3ds,and I'm dying for the option to play both on the go and on the TV.

@Knighty_IX It was most likely a tease for the next Xenoblade, yes. We know they have 5 separate teams active, and I'd wager the (relatively) newly formed 5th team are working on the Definitive Edition, rather than 1st Production (who that teaser was stated as for), who are probably working on XC3 / XCX2 / something else new for Xenoblade. It's the perfect project to put a new team on to get them up to speed after all. Also, the teaser specifically stated they were looking for planners / level designers, which if it was for this remake they should have more than enough personnel already considering most of the levels are already planned.

The good news is, that means they have XC1 DE, a new Xenoblade, the fantasy ARPG, BotW2, and one more game in development simultaneously. I wouldn't be surprised to see the fantasy game launch holiday 2020 still.

Xenoblade Chronicles is, on most days, second on my all time list, so yesterday's announcement nearly had me emotional. I've recently began playing the game again and was thinking it deserved to see new life on the Switch. I plan to beat the game before the release of the definitive edition, which is a day one for me especially with the inclusion of previously cut content. Exploring on the Bionis and even parts of the Mechonis is a magical experience. The original game is one of the few times I've enjoyed just roaming around a game's region, seeing what I could collect or discover, and it's the only game I've played that really just blew my mind with what it accomplished on the Wii. I can't wait to see Makna Forest in particular in HD on the Switch.

Here's hoping that this game's performance isn't too different between handheld and docked. The difference with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna hindered my enjoyment of that game and has left me uninterested several times. I might return to that game and its expansion again soon though because of how hyped I am from this Direct announcement. I can't wait to re-experience the original on its third system; I'm hoping the drop is in Summer 2020.

I played this on 3DS, so this is a huge step up in graphical quality for me. It also seems to bring it more in line with XC2 aesthetically, which makes sense to do.

That model's been completely redone too. Compare it to the original and notice they added a lot more detail. They've just made it all look very similar to the original.

I noticed something interesting. If you look at that last shot of the Bionis Shoulder and compare it to the original, you see that the floating island with that square building is actually completely new.Untitled Not only that, but it has the glowing blue bottom like the islands in Eryth Sea. Well I looked at the original game footage and it looks identical to this island from Eryth Sea: Untitled It has the walkway across the middle AND the square building with steps around the outside. So it looks very likely that they're actually merging the 2 areas. Shoulder and Eryth Sea combined to be one huge area. That also explains why Alcamoth is a bit closer than you'd probably expect it to be
