@GrailUK I am hoping they just kick off another round of DLC for the successor and just keep printing ultimate. Maybe add a new game mode or two to make it feel “new”. Otherwise there are gonna be some very angry people next release.

@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, it's difficult to see where the game goes with the next console. But yeah, I think you are right not to rule out another round of DLC at some point (Sakurai hasn't lol) but defintely something probably best not to be waiting for.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK Not just to re-release but to maintain as well. These licenses are probably timed, as in some day in the future it'll expire and the content has to be delisted. Like how Forza games and DLC are removed from digital stores 4 years after launch because the car and/or music licenses expire after that timeframe.
@Grumblevolcano MK8 isn’t going to be the answer for a lot of the old crusties on this site, but I know plenty of youngsters for whom that’s as great a title as any for them, and probably the franchise they would look the most for on their next Nintendo system, much more than Zelda
It seems so obviously Breath of the Wild that there is no point in talking about it. I mean, you want to come up with something other than Breath of the Wild, but realistically nothing compares.
If AC wasn't the cozy pandemic game, it probably wouldn't have had much of an impact. That alone I think can compete with BotW. People will look back on these years and think of AC as their comfort game. That is not insignificant.
Can ask this question about pretty much any console and arguably wouldn't get a clear answer. Maybe Halo on og Xbox is the strongest contender, but I'm sure there's plenty of Xbox players who would counter that. Pretty sure I played more Project Gotham Racing myself.
It probably also depends on how you define the question. If we're talking about the first game most people will associate with the console after the generation has ended? You could probably narrow it down to one game for each. Some are definitely harder than others but. Off the top of my head going from best selling consoles to least...
PS2: GTA Vice City
DS: New SMB
GB: Tetris ..... or Pokemon
PS4: Spiderman
PS: FF VII
Wii: Wii Sports
Switch: BotW
PS3: The Last of Us
360: ..... not sure TBH
GBA: Pokemon
PSP: GTA ... probably
3DS: I'd argue Super Mario 3D Land
NES: Super Mario Bros
XBOne: again not sure, maybe both the XBOne and 360 share GTAV?
SNES: Super Mario World
N64: Ocarina of Time.... but Mario 64 is also a legit answer
XBox: Halo
GC: Smash Bros Melee but you could certainly make the case for Wind Waker/Metroid Prime
Wii U: Super Mario 3D World
Some playlists: Top All Time Songs, Top Last Year
An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
@skywake going beyond the Wii’s pack-in software, probably most people would name MKWii for that console.
Likewise I would also argue MK7 for the 3DS could edge out 3D Land. They came out around the same time but MK7 is the top selling 3DS game. But I get that the marketing of one of the first isometric Mario games leaves an impression
