The North American release will require a download. However, the box art for the EUR release doesn't have the "required download" notice on the box art like the NA version does. So the question is, is the EUR version using a 16GB cartridge, allowing all three games to be on one cart? If that's the case, then it looks like I'll be buying the EUR version.

That seems to be the case.

Interesting. At first I assumed that maybe EUR releases were somehow different. Maybe the download notice is placed on the back box art, or maybe in fine on the back. But then I looked at the EUR release for Wolfenstein II, and the "required download" notice is there, just like the NA release. And so...it must be...the EUR release of The Banner Saga doesn't require a download.

How odd. I wonder why Gearbox chose an 8GB cart for NA and a 16GB for EUR?

Regardless, I suppose it's time to place another import order.

@Magician You should check if it's really the final official boxart.
Some retailers put out pre-release boxart.

I've checked with multiple retailers. GAME, Amazon, 365games, etc. They're all using the same box art.

@Magician Still, don't pre-order anything just yet. They may still change that in the meantime. Try to contact them if possible, that's the only way to be certain.

I appreciate your concern. However, I've convinced. My preorder is placed.

But even if I was too hasty, I'm beginning to believe the North American release is a bigger cash-grab than I realized. Here in NA, Gearbox has given an msrp of $50 for The Banner Saga on Switch. And yet, I just placed my import order for $33. Logic dictates that the EUR version should cost more if it was using a 16GB game cartridge. sniff sniff I think I smell North American corporate greed.

In the end, even if the EUR version does require a download, I feel as though I got a better value for my money by ordering an import copy.

I see that this is on sale at a number of different places for $30. Given that each game is $25 on the eShop, $10 a piece is a pretty good deal. But I'm having trouble finding exactly what is on a cartridge and what has to be downloaded. Does anybody have this and know for certain? Thanks. I'm in the US, in case that makes a difference as the discussion above makes it seem like it might.

I believe both the NA and EU versions have the first two games on the cartridge while the third game is a required download. The mandatory download is around 5GB-6GB. I haven't fired up my EU copy to confirm this personally, but I can check it later today and post about it if you insist?

I think the reason why the EU copy can get away with not having the download banner on the box art is because the first two games function without requiring an internet connection, and the launcher for the third game (on the cartridge) would activate a download for the third game if you had an active internet connection.

I'm also interested. If all three games are on the EU cart, then I'm ordering it immediately.

I have it installed (EU) version and in the data management is shows a 4.3Gb installation file. So I think the third game is still a download.

The European version will still require a mandatory download. Unfortunately, many storefronts disingenuously use tentative cover art, even long after release, when it comes to releases like these (L.A. Noire being a particularly notorious example).

I am yet to see any variance in cartridge size between regions concerning releases such as these.
