This is a pretty general question, I understand that many of you are sick of the gaming drought that Mintendo has received in the past, and are surging for more games. I am in the process of opening a New studio in the Qiebec City area and I need the help of true Nintendo gamers. I am in no way promising a giant triple AAA title, as our team will be small and will not have the budget nor experience to pump out a multi-million dollar budget game but what I can promise is hard work and dedication that will give you a quality project at a great price.
So what genre should we push for? What is lacking the most in your Nontendo experience?
Thank you sincerely for all of your comments and input it will be taken into deep consideration while we view our options with Nontendos next system.
Pretty much every genre that can be made at a low budget is already covered in some way, what we really need are platformers more like the early 3D ones we saw in the 90's and early 00's (Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Jak and Daxter). If you can make a 2D variant of that style, that'd be great (and it is possible, there's been some fangames that have done this), otherwise just work on whatever you think you can innovate.
@Bolt_Strike 3D Platformers I can understand, but the Wii U is literally drowning in a sea of 2D Platformers. On the other hand the console doesn't have very many RPG's and Adventure titles. I don't want the trend to continue with the NX.

A 2D platformer would be fine if it's not a linear, retro style platformer. Platformers differ much more on linear vs. open than they do 2D vs. 3D, with the former they're almost entirely different genres. As for RPGs, the 3DS has tons of them, so I wouldn't worry about the NX. Adventure games are definitely lacking on both consoles, though.
Although if you're going to go for Metroidvania, there's a ton of indie Metroidvanias so I wouldn't do that either.
Do whatever you are passionate about. Most good games are made with passion and less with trying to satisfy a market. Maybe instead of asking what we would like, pitch is a few games and take a poll. Even if you have to keep details vague.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Take Supreme Commander on PC, swap out the high tech units for Nature's Insect Kingdom, shrink the size of maps to the size of a backyard, baseball field, or median of a road for example(because bugs are small anyway) substitute the tech tree for the evolutionary tree(see what i did there) include the "human" element as a hazard to all 'factions' that varied from map to map. Throw in a pathetic excuse for a story but EXCELLENT multiplayer and you got me sold.

I'm sure you already know this, but whatever it is make sure the gameplay is fun, because you can put as much polish into a game as you want, but it won't be any good if your core gameplay isn't good.
That being said, I like RTS and there aren't too much on Nintendo platforms, however getting the gameplay/uniqueness right can be pretty challenging and I wouldn't recommend it for a first game unless you get a really good gameplay idea.
And particularly from Nintendo games, exploration-type games of many genres, like Xenoblade Chronicles, Sunshine, or Pikmin are my favorite (Not a fan of many of the "adventure" games on PC).
I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke! My YouTube Channel! Video game related, of course! My Pushmo Levels

My main interest is for more people to be inspired by how Zelda games are structured. That blend of action fun in a sort of open but not huge, linear but with non-linear elements, world. With a good variety of other, different gameplay ideas that can be put into the game. With each section of the story climaxing in a dungeon-like area with a boss. Also good story elements without them overshadowing the gameplay.
All of this would be great but that mix of gameplay and story and making a game that doesn't force itself to be too large/non-linear or too small/linear is something I wish there was more of (or at least more from what I have happened to play/enjoy)
Whatever you do, it needs to come from your hearr. All of you need to love what you are doing. Because if you don't, the game might still be good and moderate success but what's that worth when you didn't like making it? Also regarding the story of your game, you'll probably run into stereotype characters or simple filler NPCs. So I recommend you just have fun with them. Make them quirky and unique, maybe one or two of you could write some hilarious dialogue (not that I'd want you to pull an Undertale 2, of course ).
What I would to see again is an exploration time game in the style of the original The Legend of Zelda or maybe A Link to the Past. Just throw the player right into the scene and most importantly for me, let them figure stuff out on their own. Limit tutorials as much as possible. Also, fill the game with secrets. Tons of secrets.

You know what Ive CRAVED from an indie developer. A true sensible soccer style football game. It was the greatest sports game of its time and is still playable today, but it could be pushed further.
It would sell like hotcakes if you add worldwide teams, a decent online mode with quick match, tournament etc and just made it easy to pick up and play for 5 mins or 5 hours.
Apart from fifa and pro evo there are no other football games around and for me, the fun is kinda being sacked out of them through realism !
So there you go, a nice simple above the head camera football game! Trust me you'll be a millionaire!
P.S 25% please x
The Wii U is really missing first person games, but that can be tricky without a high budget. If you go the minimalist route though, it could still be successful. Minimalist first person games have been successful when focusing on plot or puzzles, and I can't think of one on the Wii U (except maybe Q.U.B.E.)
Currently bored (while change when I stop being bored)

I think just a similar gameplay style with a different look. It's the simplicity and ease that's the draw
Its what I would make and if it released at around £10 it's a winner!
Thank you all for the comments and they will be taken into consideration, as of right now we are currently working on a 2D fighter, as I develop further into the game and obtain more news it will be posted. As for the poster asking for a soccer game our initial idea was a sports game... But we dropped it for our current project! Thank you all!
What Nintendon't: First person shooters, survival horror, serious driving games, a traditional fighter, and Western RPGs
What I would build: A third person adventure game with an open, wild landscape with 4-8 temples (whose entrances are hidden)
What you should build: Stick with what you know, design the whole thing in entirety first, and keep your ambitions on budget and on track (pick an idea and don't get distracted by new ideas along the way)
If you ever do a 3D game, remember the camera is very important in viewing and not making people's heads spin into a nausea. Amazing how many times games will get bashed for poor camera controls or viewing.
