I doubt the next console will be built off of the code name. While the earlier systems had some ties to the name, since the Gamecube, they've been rather different. Also, I think Nintendo would feel weird if a prominent part of the console's name was "X" seeing how closely related it is to a competitor.
I'd still like for a console to be called the U-NES [Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System], but I doubt that'll pass. Whatever the case, it will be a name that reflects the character of the system (e.g.: Gamecube was a cube-shaped game system; Wii encouraged people of all kinds to play together; Wii U... eh.).

I don't think it would be wise to give it a name based on a previous console. It associates itself with old hardware lacking modern features. When I hear Ultra NES, or Gameboy HD, it makes me think of it as an older, cheaper system. Don't get me wrong, I love my Gameboy, but it's now gone down in history as a monochrome AAbattery-powered 160x144 machine.
It definitely needs a more serious name this go around to be taken seriously and does not need to be associated with the Wii or Wii U whatsoever. I think NX is a fine name actually, but as we all know Nintendo is keen to change a great name (Revolution) to something dumb (Wii) at the last minute.
Seeing as when the Super Nintendo came, it was "higher than" the ordinary Nintendo console.
I think it would be nice to go back to the roots and take the next step (tho some wording-experts say that Super is sometimes seen as higher than Ultra).
Also the Nintendo 64 was first code-named Ultra 64.
Nintendo 10 to show it's the 10th console, which means it's 10 times better than Xbox 1 and 2.5 times better than PS4 (joking obviously).
If it's a handheld they just need to call it GameBoy, or new GameBoy (their new naming convention).
I sincerely Hope it isn't called new Wii U however (Wii U should have been called the Super Nintendo DS Entertainment system SNDSES).
Is it their 10th console? More like the seventh home system from NES. Or are you suggesting Nintendo should defy logic and maths and do a "Windows 10"?

Wouldn't it be the 11th? I know this is a somewhat debated topic, but most people agree that there have been at least 10 before it, making it the 11th:
NES, Gameboy, SNES, N64, Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U.
I would personally add the Virtual Boy to that mix, and although I disagree, some people consider the Gameboy Color to be a separate line from the Gameboy. Unless you consider the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance to be the same, even though they each had a completely different library, I don't think calling the NX 10th is right.
Home Console - Nintendo Zero ( start from Zero ) OR Ninendo 6 ( just to get a couple number above sony so consumers assume its better ) and representing the 6 pillars holding the platform ( shown in the announcement presentation )
Hand Held - Nintendo HDS ( hd screen/s )
Hybrid - Nintendo Link ( perfect meaning linking all platforms and a reference to zelda )
The name needs to show some evolution. How about GameTesseract.
Slogan: The Next Dimension You Play
GameCube ][ with the roman numeral for 2 stylised in brackets, I think it shows some evolution.
Regardless, Tesseract is an awful idea, it is far too "geeky" a term for regular people to understand. But a tesseract is also called in fourth-dimensional geometry an hypercube.
So, I suggest that. Nintendo HyperCube. It can be related back to the GameCube and gives a senses of evolution, from a three dimensional shape to a four dimensional one. Ordinary folks may not know what an hypercube is in mathematics, but they will get that it is a cube and that the hyper prefix means something large or more advanced in some way.
It would be awesome if Nintendo really made another cube-shaped console.

Again, I really don't think that the new name should associate itself with outdated hardware. Remember that the big Nintendo fans are only a fraction of Nintendo's audience, and others that remember the GameCube will think of the new console as similar to that, and not some totally new thing they need to have. I remember how people talked about the Wii before it launched, and I don't think the "GameCube ][" would facilitate that.
Though I gotta say, I'm not opposed to the name "HyperCube;" that's not a bad name. I just think that coming up with a name based entirely on the name of a retro console is a bad idea.

I mean, sometimes geeky terms can sound cool to people who have no idea what they are. "Matrix" is a prime example.
