You know those old fads like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Bakugan? You can discuss them here. Just because a fad is dead doesn't mean it should be forgotten. Share your favorite childhood fads and bash the ones you didn't like. I personally went through the first Power Rangers, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh. I was already out of highschool when Bakugan was popular and didn't get sucked into it until the Gundalian Invaders was almost over. I didn't really watch much of the anime except for the 4th and 5th DVDs of season 1. I did notice that alot of people my age who grew up with Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh hated Bakugan. They said it didn't make sense and there weren't any rules. The toys had rules for play but the reason the show seems to not follow the rules is because the Bakugan are alien monsters that grow strong where as the toys never gain G-power so they made other sets. Aside from some bad acting it has a good story in season 1. Reminded me of Digimon with some gender benders mixed in. Alice... Did she become all male? But my favorite fad is and always will be Pokemon.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Line Rider was the big thing before Minecraft came along and became an even bigger thing.

As a phenomenon it's not what it used to be. There was a multiverse that anyone and everyone under 12 was part of. The games, anime, cards, etc were all huge things.

But unlike most fads, Pokemon didn't die hard. The games and anime maintain a strong following.

Anyone remember Pogs? They were a bit before my time, but my older brother & cousin had them, and I remember playing with them once or twice.

The first fad I really got into myself was Pokémon, and then later Yu-Gi-Oh!. Never got into anything that came after (though one of my friends got into Beyblade for a time).

EDIT: Upon further investigation into Pogs, it appears that many companies such as Disney & Nintendo even came out with limited Pog sets featuring their characters on them (apparently, Nintendo gave out EarthBound Pogs to promote the game, with copies of Nintendo Power).

Despite being a huge fan myself, I'd say a whole faction of Digimon is pretty much gone.

The whole electronic pet/card collecting aspect is mostly forgotten in favor of simple toys. But I don't mind, since electronic pets as a whole are a thing of the past, and cards didn't really go with Digimon if you ask me.

Game-wise, I'd love to see some of the recent entries (mainly Battle Royale and Re:Digitize) come to Nintendo platforms; I've never played any of the older ones.

The anime series however is still very much alive and insanely popular; its always topped Pokémon in terms of quality-storytelling and actual character development.

Can't wait to see the new series starring the Adventure cast this year!

Dead fad? Lol how about motion controlled gaming? Chuckle chuckle.

Oh I remember them well. Although they were a bit AFTER my time. I have a clear memory of a kid who super glued 4 slammers together so he'd win everyone else's pogs. (That's a great sentence if you have no idea what they were.)

Controllerless controls are dead

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Too young for that, but I remember the Rubik's Magic fad, I still have one. Who remembers Garbage Pail Kids (the collectable cards)? Use to be a big fan around series 1 & 2 when I must have been around 7.

I remember in high school there was a big fad going around about "scooby doo strings" as we called them iirc. They're basically these rubber stings that you tie together in a pattern to create nest little...things. You could use just 3 strings, or 4 or 4 or even 6! It was fun while it lasted

Pokémon cards were the big thing in my primary school for a good couple of years around 2006-ish, but more for collecting and trading than actually battling. Never did get into battling them! It was such a big thing that I managed to accidentally single-handedly get them banned from my school when someone stole my entire collection of 200+ cards and never got them back! R.I.P. ...except with the kids here in Britain. It's all about Minecraft with them now. And Call of Duty. I've heard 8-year-olds recount their experiences playing COD to me. What is happening to this world?

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the resurgence in 2005/2006. It got so bad my middle school banned them. I'm not old enough for the original fad either.

Dead fads don't sell 10s of millions of games a year.

Which motion controlled game is currently selling 10s of millions?
