I never understood this casual and hardcore thing, especially with the Nintendo audience. Hardcore seems to be a really lazy way to mention the games you really want to play.
How about, if you'd want to debate things instead of saying "Nintendo's forgotten the hardcore", why can't you say "Nintendo's forgotten their legacy?" That would clearly reference how they don't focus on things like Virtual Console as well as their huge marketing of the "Wii" brand.
Instead of saying "I want a new core IP," why not say "I want Nintendo to create an IP that's a bit more epic in scope, something akin to the games they did in pass generations?"
C'mon people, if you want to be respected, show the industry what you REALLY mean instead of using casual/hardcore. That could mean anything and we suffer while publishers try to figure it out.

I am currently attempting to 100% Endless Ocean, and I'm having a whale of a time. Which bracket would that gaming activity fit into then? CasuCore! Hardual?! The stupid terms are doing my head in now. They should refer to the way in which we play games, not the game itself.
I don't own a 360 or a PS3, but I am most definitely a h-core gamer!
I see where you are going. I am just sick of hearing hardcore/casual myself. I have been gaming for 23 years since the age of 4. I have 6 consoles and a PC. I buy the games I want not because they are tailored for the core or casual crowd. i buy what I think I might have an interest in playing.
You could say games like Contra are hardcore because they offer a hardcore challenge. But I encounter these "hardcore" that don't like to be challenged.
Like Machu mentioned. He can get 100% on EO. When I was growing up, how you played the game determined how hardcore you were, especially if you could play a game like Contra without losing any lives.
That is one of the main reason why formal Nintendo fans cannot stand anything that Nintendo does, all because Nintendo is trying to introduce a new audience.

Exactly..Sometimes i admit,I'm not even that good at a hardcore challenge. Depends on how well the controls are.
