Personally I see the Empire, or whatever is left of it, being the main antagonist in this film, with the next two in the trilogy perhaps moving to an entirely new threat. It would help ease us into the series again by having familiar elements before transitioning to the new world they're creating. Of course, that's just my speculation, so take it for what it's worth.

"Wouldn't that cut his own hand?"

Only if he has slippery hands, I guess.

"We do know that this charcter is called Grave Digger and he collectors sith artifacts having a Vader, and Revan helmet"

So he's some kind of fanboy. Interesting.

LOLWUT?

They're gonna call the bad guy "GRAVEDIGGER"?

You're fumin' kidding me, right?

Is he gonna have horns again? Or maybe a hoof and batwings this time?? Sport a huge laser sickle to complete the set?? Is he gonna snort "Bah, humbug!" every once in a while and spread a smokey stench of rotten eggs? XD

One-dimensional characters like that were a thing of the prequel past, I hoped?

Okay, the my hype has settled down, and I need to get this off my chest.

Here are my overall hopes for Episode VII:

  • Every lightsaber battle from here on should be modeled on the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan fight. It's a perfect blend of the well done choreography of "Darth Maul vs Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon" and the intense and meaningful atmosphere of "Luke vs. Vader" in Episode V. I want to be able to see the emotion and stakes in the fight, but I also want to see awesome looking fights too.

First point and I already disagree, lol.

The Anakin vs Obi-wan fight was a textbook example of excess. It was like 5x longer than it needed to be and full of flashy but illogical choreography. Luke vs Vader in both Empire and Jedi have all of the emotion and atmosphere, but none of the tomfoolery and dance-offs of Anakin vs Obi-wan and Darth Maul vs the Jedi.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

But the intense choreography really ups the ante in terms of raw excitement. If that can offer that with emotion and atmosphere, then that should be done. I'm not saying the fights should be hollow action scenes though. There's a reason I forgot about all of the fights in "Clones" until I rewatched it. Anakin v Obi-Wan maybe could have been slightly shorter, but I really don't think it could by much. The whole fight portays Obi-wan as being a prudent, methodical fighter who is still reluctant to hurt his friend, while Anakin is blinded with rage. As such you see Anakin wailing away, which most of the time Obi-wan is blocking. When the incineration sequence goes off, Obi-wan just wants to get to safe ground, hence why he keeps retreating. But Anakin continues to pursue, filled with rage. It eventually ends in a mirrored confrontation to when Obi-Wan fought Maul, but this time with Anakin failing in his arrogance.

Everything in the fight just felt perfect, and it was a blast to watch just in itself.

Star Wars is an action movie to a degree, so that is important. Whether it's logical or not doesn't matter much (though, I don't really much that's that impractical for a quick paced fight. There are a few unnecessary spins, but that's just a thing that movies with swords do (cough Pirates of the Caribbean cough))

^ Boba Fett was introduced in the Holiday Special, and he's still around 30 years later. Time doesn't really seem to be any indicator at all of how well or poorly a character is received. I think it's pretty telling that Jar Jar went from a central character in Episode I to having like 2 scenes and 4 lines in Episode II.

Ewoks for some reason, have come back as being "well-received" after decades of being hated. Ahmed Best himself stated something along the lines of "the less we saw of Jar Jar was reflecting the turn for the worst in the overall scheme of things." So less comic-relief=something bad's coming. As for central roles he had later on, don't forget the 13-or-so episodes of TCW he appeared in. He played a major role most of the time.

Sure, Boba Fett was introduced in the Holiday Special (and was much more interesting than in TESB and RotJ combined if you ask me.) But he was always intended to appear in TESB, so it was more of a teaser to his debut.

The SW fandom is one of the worst judges of how good or bad a character is. This is the group of people who propped up Boba Fett and Darth Maul, despite them being rather unimportant and completely undeveloped. They were both really plot devices that happened to "look cool". It's also the fanbase that argued that said Jar Jar, an albeit overused comic relief character, ruined Star Wars, despite him being almost completely insignificant to the plot.

I definitely agree with the Boba Fett and Darth Maul being put on a pedestal for no other reason than "they look kewl." SW fans can be shallow to the point that if new characters are anything less than "super duper kewl" such as the cute volleyball droid in VII's teaser, they immediately throw a hissy fit. Because SW should always cater to the OT diehards...

I still say Jar Jar was as integral to the plot as much as 3PO and R2 were; had he not befriended Padme and told her that his people had a grand army, she wouldn't of gone back to Naboo, made peace with the Gungans, and saved her people from the Trade Federation. Similar to the droids befriending Luke, showing him Leia's message so he could seek out Obi-Wan, save Leia from the Empire, and ultimately become a Rebel pilot and destroy the Death Star.

Jar Jar, 3PO, and R2 were the plucky sidekicks that gave the protagonist(s) crucial knowledge that helped them along the way of their grand journey. It doesn't make them less important, but they're integral all the same.

TBH, I hardly see what was so annoying about Jar Jar. He wasn't really an amazing character or anything, but he definitely wasn't awful. I view him like I view C3PO and R2D2; slightly humorous comic relief.

Jar Jar is a one-dimensional racial cliche-fueled clown, and a bad piece of CGI sticking out like a sore thumb on top of that.

C3PO and R2D2 are witty "peasant types" trying to get through a world that — being "mere" machines — often goes over their electron minds. Their occasional petiness, sulking and other such very human phenomena are both a stark contrast to their robotic nature and at the same time testimony of the incredible technological achievement they, IRONICALLY, do represent after all.

Thus, both C3PO and R2D2 exhibit a DEPTH OF CHARACTER that any prequel character — "human", alien or otherwise — can only dream of. (And I haven't even touched the whole R2D2 machine language thing.)

Also, they're fantastic exhibits of costume and production design craftsmanship. Not crappy CGI.

So please don't kid yourself: Just because two (or in this case: three) different characters are each employed as comic relief doesn't make them equal in quality.

"Star Wars stinks...because of Jar Jar Binks." Conan O'Brien singing one week after Episode I was released.

Grave Digger is just short hand so people on forums can quit saying Adam Driver all the time. Same reason why Kira is used for Daisy Ridely.

As for the empire it makes since that they would still be a thing after Sheev got killed by Vadar.

Some concept art leaked earlier this year and this is the most interesting stuff.

@16_Million,

Yeah, Gravedigger doesn't sound right (if that's his official name). But he could still be a cool character. We'll see.

Whatever his name will be its going to be Darth something since he's aligned with the sith.

Not necessarily.
"Darth" is a proper Sith title, and the character may just be a darksider but not a Sith proper. It's possible that the darksider(s) in the new trilogy will not be "true" Sith at all.

With him being a Sith fanboy I can't see them not going the full sith route. The rumors tend to point that we will see non sith Inquisitors but the main villains seem to be sith.

Though I've always had problems as what counts as a sith or a Jedi.
