Cell phones can be quite cheap so adding one to a handheld wouldn't raise the cost too much.
Okay, so there have been primarily videogame handhelds that also incorporated cell phone technology in the past and was either unpopular or just wasn't functional properly as both a handheld and a cell phone. With cell phones being incredibly popular, there shouldn't be any reason in future why the two remain seperate.
But of course, you want a dedicated cell phone, it'd be better to buy one specifically for doing so. Likewise, you want a proper gaming handheld then you stick with Nintendo's.

That's a silly rule. Clearly, the discussion wasn't over.
It had been gone for 4 years. Necromancing a thread isn't looked upon favorably here.
^Trust me, this guy knows what he's talking about Okay that's a low blow, now that I write it...
...but I'm still keeping it there, cuz Imma rebel.
Erm...as for the topic, no. No they should not, because Cellphone service is expensive. Forget the NGage, just look at the Vita - no one wanted the 3G version, even before people found out Sony blatantly lied about what it could do. And that's just the Data service. Talking on phones is actually becoming less and less of a thing as people switch to texting and Internet. I don't think Cell service is the way to go. I think the world just needs better internet...
No. A handheld console has to be too big to be a phone. I don't always carry a handheld around, and when I do, I try to be mindful if it. A iPhone is much easier to carry around causally, and it would be horrible to have to carry my 3DS or Vita around the house with me. Plus, there's a matter of battery life too. I can't game too much or I won't have a phone to use.

I agree. If you're having a discussion about the same topic, and its still relevant (ie. any discussion, not old news), then what's the point in a new thread? All it does is remove your ability to see previous replies on the matter.
Ugh, hell no. Phones have absolutely nothing to do with gaming (they just happen to get used for playing mostly awful games), and adding any sort of functionality of a phone to a console is pointless, since it doesn't make gaming experiences better by any stretch of the word.
I am not interested in getting another general purpose connection I don't see the point.
If it worked similar to the 3G Kindles I would probably use it (Obviously it would have to be restricted to buying games and playing them).
Or if it was included with something else that I would get anyway. (Anything with a monthly fee that involves any sort of discount would end up saving me money).

I really don't see any problem with bumping an old thread as long as there is renewed interest in the topic. Why split up both the new and old conversations and end up with duplicate threads, than just keeping one topic in the same place? If Kirby Air Ride 2 is announced, why can't I just bump the current Kirby Air Ride 2 thread (Assuming there is one) so we can just continue the discussion there?
As for this topic, I wouldnt really have a problem with including cell phones in future consoles, as long as A) You are not forced to pay for a coverage plan, B) It doesn't make the device more expensive, or there is an alternate, cheaper model without the cell features, and C) The device is for gaming with phone on the side, not a device meant as a phone with gaming on the side.
