So I just finished the original Shantae after hearing how good it and this series are. I thought it was fun, but I don't know if I liked it enough to try to invest in the whole series with one out and two more coming. Honestly, I found it even more frustrating than the original Metroid as far as figuring out where to go and what to do. At least in Metroid when you got a new item you knew what to do with it, but not in this game. I even tried to look up some hints a couple of times which I never do in games. I guess I'm asking how does Risky's Revenge compare to the original, what changes does it make, is it less frustrating (not necessarily easier, just less frustrating). For example, the entire game all the NPCs talked about how Mt. Pointy was the highest point in the world, but then when Mimic tells me to go to the highest point to look for Risky, Mt. Pointy is not it! It made no sense. I'm not sure I want to spend $12 on the sequel if it is a lot of the same (I know $12 is not a whole lot, but I could spend that on a couple VC games that I want instead).
I played Risky's Revenge first and LOVED it. Then, when the original game to VC, I quickly downloaded it, excited for me... And was fasted with a frustratingly difficult and directionless grind that I ultimately lost interest in before beating. In other words... I loved Risky's Revenge and am, at best, indifferent towards the original. I can't say for CERTAIN that you'll loved Risky's Revenge, we all have different tastes, but in my opinion it was loads better and I don't regret buying it (I even beat it twice). Do what you wish with that knowledge, and if you get it I hope you enjoy it more as well.

Thanks for the info. I did think Shantae got better once I figured out (or in one case saw online) the tricks I needed to use my new powers, so already having that knowledge will probably make Risky's Revenge easier to figure out. I just have to decide if it will be worth the money with all the new games that are (hopefully) coming out soon probably not being much if any more expensive.
I also played Risky's Revenge first and really enjoyed it. However the original Shantae is a different story, I have yet to finish the game mainly because I've had the same problem as you. The game is frustrating to navigate.
I got frustrated with the original as well, but like the concept enough to give the second game a shot. I thought the fighting and dancing were extremely difficult and hope those are improved in Risky's Revenge and beyond.
May not touch Risky's Revenge being overpriced and super short. (someome try and convince me otherwise because i haven't played it. plz) and the origonal, well i see how ppl can get a sense of not knowing where to go next and in my opinion some of the jokes were kinda bad but it's a pretty good game.
I haven't gotten much into the original yet but like many others I loved Risky's Revenge and I am excited for the sequel! If I were you I would try Risky's Revenge and if its not your cup of tea don't play the sequel, because I'm betting the sequel will be more expensive.
Now for something completely different!
Still got it memorized? My Skitloggery
