Haha that women pulling the bucket sucked. You've surely gotta do it all in 1.

I know it's a really hard argument to work through but does anyone else think that maybe this should've all been done for a disease that maybe affects more people? It's kinda become a cliched and shallow response, but every now and then I do find myself jumping on the "hey, we still haven't cured cancer people!" bandwagon.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I guess, though cancer research gets far more funding and consideration. ALS latched onto an idea and it has worked wonders for them. According their site, last year they raised about $1.5 million. So far this year they have already raised $15 million.

A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.

No, being slower is more excruciating for the person being dunked and the challenge makes no question of how fast or slow you do it. Most people do it all in one cause it's easier that way.

Also, here's the thing about ALS. There's not only no cure, but no treatment, and it is extremely painful and entirely debilitating. Yeah, it's not exactly a common disease like cancer, but considering how bad it is for people suffering for it and the fact that there's not even any way to make dying from it even slightly better, it's entirely fair that ALS has been getting all the attention is has, recently. Here, lemme find Gaijin Goomba's video. It does a much better job of explaining why this is such a good thing than I could probably do. (And tbf, I took most of my points from his video, anyways.)

He's kind of a jerk about the challenge itself, but he's pointing out why the organization is important.

A nifty calendar (Updated 9/13/15)
The UGXloggery ... really needs an update.

Congrats on wasting a precious resource.

If people really cared they wouldn't need to advertise it and expect pats on the back. They would just donate and have the piece of mind that they did something.

Awareness is VERY important. That's why breast cancer research is far and away the cause that receives the most donations, even though the number of people it actually affects is relatively low.

This chart points out where money is going vs what actually affects the most people. Some of the numbers are quite staggering. Breast cancer fund raisers collect over $6,000,000 per person affected, whereas heart disease raises $90. Why? Because of campaign awareness. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been phenomenally successful in raising awareness for the research, so much that donations have increased by 1000% YoY.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

@CaviarMeths Yea I get people wanting to raise awareness but if you can't see how wasting a resource we need to survive that we are running out of is the wrong way of going about things then you have your head in the sand.

Clean cold water evaporates easily and returns to the sky. It's not really wasting it unless you live in a place where all the water is obtained from underground deposits.

Don't forget that most people take clean water, which has to be cleaned first (obviously) which takes power to both clean and transfer. But it's still not a waste in most of our countries. Right now you can get about 700 liters of clean cold water for one dollar. So it's not really a waste over here...

Yeah, I'm already aware of all of this- due to the fact I've read all of Hawking's books. I'm not sure how much that adds to the argument though, you could possibly even argue that it's better to donate to causes where the potential treatments are already conceived (if you put a higher valuation on people already living than people of the future, that seems the right conclusion).
The whole hypothetical of "if you have X dollars to donate to any cause, what's the most good you can do?" is so mindnumbingly hard to work through. I certainly wouldn't judge anyone for going for any 1 cause in particular. I'm just saying that in my own case, something else would probably come out on top.

He should have to do it for every third party game that's not coming to the 3DS or Wii U.
