Topic: Push Square's Best Nintendo Game of all Time!

First of, I hope posting this is ok, I figure that being sister sites it would be but if it isn't let me know and I will delete this thread.

Anyway just wanted to let everyone here who doesn't visit Pushsquare often that over there we are running a community poll of the best Nintendo game of all time!! We also like to invite users from NL to participate in the poll cause who better knows Nintendo then the community here.

It's a fun event put on by one of our community members and in the past he has ran similar polls such as best PS game of all time, best GOTY etc. I also figured this might be a nice thing to bring the two communities together.

We are now well and truly into the next phase of the cup over at Pushsquare.com 90 games in total were picked from the huge library of games on a Nintendo console. We are currently battling games 1 v 1 winner stays in the cup, the loser goes out. Everyone is free to join in! I'm surprised Soul Caliber 2 is on there, also no Yoshi's Island and a lack of Mario Kart is also surprising but with so many titles they must have cancelled each other out.

No Xenoblade Chronicles and no Super Mario World?

I reject these opinions.

The presence of Awakening and the heavy Zelda slant sours the list for me personally.

@Frosty_09 It's the best Nintendo game of all time, and if most Mario or Zelda games are better than their other franchises, they have every right to be on that list in my opinion. Never understood the reason to limit the results to one game per franchise. Might as well have a ''Best game of every franchise'' poll if you want to know what you're suggesting!

@Frosty_09 I skimmed through your post, didn't read all of it, just wanted to say that first!

I think the answer is rather simple. The most people played a certain game, the more likely people are going to vote for it. Remember, the active voters are also a relatively small group on PushSquare. Maybe 50 people at most. Anyway, it explains why Mario and Zelda are so high, I think that a similar poll on NLife would've ended up like that too. I remember the Best PS4 game of 2016. I knew that Uncharted 4 was going to win anyway (didn't mind that at all by the way). It's a great game and it sold really well. Naturally, more people are going to vote for it. I personally think that Tropical Freeze is one of the finest games made by Nintendo, and definitely a game that should be in the top 20. But we're talking about a Wii U game and we're polling on a PlayStation site. Not a lot of people own a Wii U (heck, even a decent chunk of people on NLife don't own a Wii U), so it was expected that it wouldn't get a lot of votes, because a lot of people are unfamiliar with the game, or just haven't played it. I've accepted that an ''objective'' poll or something close to that is just impossible. In the end, I can only vote for the games I've played.

To answer some of your questions. I prefer Gold/Silver over Crystal, and I prefer them even over HGSS. Nostalgia is part of that answer, but I can also appreciate the simplicity in those games. Plus, it's always a moral dilemma; Vote for the original game or vote for a remake? You can argue that the remake is the definitive version, but you can also argue that a remake doesn't add much originality and that the credit deserves to go to the original game instead.

I also think that HD remasters like Wind Waker HD were counted along with the original games as the same entry, but I'm not sure on that. I even argued that it wouldn't be fair to vote for the Prime Trilogy, as they're essentially three games in one, so you can blame me for that! I personally wouldn't count the trilogy as a ''game'', but rather a collection of games. Does it deserve a spot on the Best Game of All Time list? In my opinion; No.

I agree and disagree with some of the other examples. Would be great to see Okami get mentioned for example, or Super Mario World (better than SMB3 in my opinion). Still, you have to remember that we could only enter five games during the first round. Okami isn't in my top 5 Nintendo games of all time, so I didn't vote for it. Nobody did. Doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a spot in the top 20, or maybe top 50. Anyway, don't take it too seriously. We're just having some fun.

I've owned every Nintendo system except Virtual Boy and Switch (hope to get the latter around the time Super Mario Odyssey hits) and I have no problem with that list. Most of my favorite Nintendo games are from the Mario and Zelda franchises. However, I will admit if I were doing my own top 20 it probably would look a little different.
