I've been having some issues with my PS3 recently. It's frozen a few times; this requires me to manually reboot the system. And just recently when I tried to delete a game that I had downloaded, it just said "Counting..." and took over 10 minutes to delete the game.
Is this a sign that my PS3 is dying, or the hard drive is corrupted?
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Depends on the size of the game, really. How frequently do you use your PS3?
Is it used? Have you dropped it before? Jailbreak it? We don't know what the case is here. If I were you and none of my questions are leaning towards a negative answer, then I'd just call Sony.
I was trying to delete Pain and it took about 10 MINUTES to delete the game. And sometimes when I access game data on the hard drive, the PS3 freezes up.
@Viewtiful_Joe The PS3 is about 2 months old, bought it brand new from Walmart. I don't hack my stuff, so it's obviously not modded or hacked. I have no interest in doing that. I use my PS3 every day.
Does the new Xbox 360 Slim have freezing issues and problems with corrupt data?
I've never heard of this before. Sounds like something in your PS3 is defective.
As far as I know, no current gen console has ever had those problems.
My Wii has frozen multiple times when the disc drive was about to die, and PS3's do freeze up constantly, just look at the complaints on the PlayStation forums.
Oh well, I'm considering trading in my PS3 and just getting an Xbox 360 Slim instead. I have 7 disc-based games (Uncharted 1 and 2 Dual Pack, Saints Row 3, GTA 4, Shadow of the Colossus & ICO Collection) and a few digital games. I'll probably get $150 for it all at Best Buy.
I heard they fixed all the Red Ring of Death issues with the new Xbox 360 models, and I like the Xbox 360 controller better than the PlayStation controller. It's much more comfortable to hold.

Get the xbox. But only if your willing to pay to play online.

@tendoboy: Have you tried contacting Sony to see what they have to say about it?

Why choose the Xbox then? You must like the controller better, or the first party titles.
The only reason I like Xbox 360 is because it has possibly the most comfortable controller I've ever used. Aside from the clunky D-pad, the Xbox 360 controller is perfect. Also I love Halo; that and Gears of War are the only reasons to get an Xbox 360 these days. Pretty much everything else can also be found on the PS3.
Sony's 1st-party games are fun. I LOVE Uncharted and God of War, but after you play one game in the series, the rest feel like the same thing again and again. Uncharted 2 had the train crash, but it's still about climbing and shooting your way to treasure and temples. God of War is even worse, every game has the same generic enemies and fighting tactics, only the weapons are different. You could say the same thing about Halo, but oh well.
And the same can't be said for Halo and Gears of War?
I just said that at the end of my post. Most game sequels feel like minor upgrades to their previous versions. Notable exceptions include Wind Waker (which was a completely different take on Zelda), Twilight Princess (which added the Wolf form and Twilight Realm), and in some ways Skyward Sword (which focuses on 1:1 sword combat and flying).
