Topic: Just got out of the hospital; what I would like you to take from it

RowdyRodimus

I had a massive stroke a few years back that almost left me paralyzed. I was lucky I got help when I did or I wouldn't be here.

Over the weekend I had a TIA, which is a mini-stroke and had to spend the last couple of days in the hospital. I'm only 33 and have already had two strokes. It's not a matter of age.

What caused mine was a bike accident I had almost 20 years ago that caused me to hit the back of my head on the street. There was a concussion that led to scar tissue that began to bleed, then add in my blood pressure being high and well, you've read the results.

I'm not putting this here for sympathy, I want all of you to be aware of some of the symptoms and things you can do to keep this from happening to you or someone you know.

1)Check you blood pressure daily. If it is high go to the doctor and get medicine for it. You can get good medicine for 4 dollars a month.
2)Constant headaches, nose bleeds or a sudden change in vision are symptoms that something is happening, see you doctor
3)Numbness in the hands, arms, legs and a slurring of words is what you feel as you ar having one- get help immediately

These are the common symptoms, if you have the symptoms you might not be having one, but there is always the chance that you are and the costs involved in getting it checked ASAP outweigh the costs and possible life changing events of a stroke down the line.

I just don't want to see anyone have to go through the hell I did if it can be prevented. If you want to learn more about it go to stroke.org but if you do have the symptoms, please, don't be like me and ignore them out of some misplaced idea of being a tough guy.

Thanks for reading.

Wow Rowdy.. sorry this is happening to you, especially at the age you're at. And thanks for the PSA.

I hope you're feeling better.

I know most people consider strokes a medical problem associated with old age when the truth is more complex than that, so thanks for sharing.

I know quite a few people on my dad's side of the family who's had a stroke. Heck dad had a mini-stroke back in August. They said it could've been major if they didn't get him to the hospital as quick as they did. If strokes can be hereditary, then I'm screwed.
BTW, hope you feel better.

Thanks for bringing it up, and I hope all goes well for you. I should grant more thought and precaution to these things myself, since my dad died at just 47 of a heart attack, and his father--although thankfully still alive--has had open heart surgery twice. While I might mistakenly feel safe about such things due to being quite thin and healthy looking, neither of them were obese either, and my grandfather eats healthier than anyone I've ever met; so, the causes are never so simple.

Hey, man, thanks for posting this. it says and means a lot that you care enough about random people on the internet to caution them about such things, that you may help in some small way to preserve their health. this is nobility at its core. thank you, man, and i pray that this is no longer a recurring issue for you, and that we all may be better prepared should such an incident ever occur with one of us. thank you.

Wow, sorry to hear that happened to you dude.
I know how your family must have felt cause that happened to my aunt's husband (uncle-in-law?) a while back and everyone was really upset. He ended up being paralyzed on one side, but I think he can move it again know. Either that or he can kinda move it but not all the way, I forget.
Oh yeah, get better too!

I'm just glad to hear you're still alive and not suffering any permanent injuries. It would have been very tragic to lose a fellow Nintendo Lifer, especially someone like you. Oh, and thanks for posting these helpful tips.

Every time I vacuum my house(I only live with my dad and he is getting old so I clean the house now)
Well afterwards my Back is really sore.

Could this lead to a stoke?..

Very sorry to hear that, Rowdy. You're one lucky man to have survived 2 strokes already. The health tips are very appreciated. Hope you get better and live a long, fulfilling life. My grandpa died of a stroke when I was 5, since my grandma wasn't able to get him to the hospital in time. I really don't want to wind up like him.

Don't be ridiculous. Your back probably hurts cuz you leaned over while vacuuming and it cramped. I highly doubt it's anything to worry about.

I'm sorry to hear about your stroke, Rodimus. My prayers go out to you and your family. It takes a lot of courage to pull through something as traumatic as a stroke. My Great-Grandmother had a stroke shortly after her 90th birthday. A few months later, she died, but I will always think about her and cherish her. I send my condolences for you and your family.

@Sean007s: Ricardo is right, you probably strained your back a little while cleaning. Happens to me sometimes too, and it's nothing a little bed-rest can't cure. :3

I'm not some [BLEEP] doctor.

Yes, you did, and I was providing an answer. I didn't insult you at all, so I have no idea why you had to insult me. I'm not a doctor either, but I just think that you assuming that a little pain in your back after a household chore is a sign of a serious illness was a little absurd. I was just trying to reassure you that your problem doesn't mean anything serious.

If I sounded condescending, I apologize, but if you want to turn this into a name-calling fest, I'd be happy to oblige.
