In short: Yes. People give WF too much praise, regardless of the game's quality. (Hotel Transylvania on 3DS anyone?)

I find myself constantly loving their art style, character designs, etc.

But when I played Mighty Switch Force... it was boring. Sure the visuals were top-notch, as well as the music; but the levels were all pretty blah and doing the same thing 15 times with little change isn't very interesting.

Haven't played either Shantae game, so I can't say whether or not the stories there are any good, I know for sure MSF could've used one.

@Austroid
The story is: Your a girl robo cop, and the blonde sisters are causing havoc after escaping jail. They escape every 5 minutes, apparently.
I liked Mighty Switch Force. I'm able to get par times on the levels.
My main gripe with the game is not enough levels, but that would probably lead to some poor level design here and there. It's easy to spot when developers don't give a crap, sometimes.

I've only played Mighty Switch Force from them. Don't know what else they've made.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

WayForward is probably "overrated" as a studio, but I consistently love their art design and find their games to be usually worth trying.

However like Phillip said, Contra 4 is a MASTERPIECE. I'd rank it 2nd place in the contra series, only being up classed by the NES original. Any fans of the A Boy & his Blob remake for the Wii? That's another along with Aliens i have yet to play on the DS.

Agree that Contra 4 (DS) is amazing.

A Boy & his Blob (Wii) has some minor design issues. Some transformations aren't as good as others and the puzzles are generally too easy (although maybe that speaks more to the target audience than the game design). However, it's extremely charming and totally worth playing if you don't mind excessive cuteness and a low difficulty level.

Aliens (DS) was a weak experience overall, but good as fan service and definitely had some cool moments. Plus the end credits are awesome - almost worth the price of admission. My suggestion: only get the game if you are a big fan of the Aliens franchise and/or find it at clearance pricing. I paid $10 and don't regret it.
