Topic: I have girlfriend issues...

Ok, so my girlfriend came over today for a few hours. Our relationship is typically very open and we don't keep secrets from each other. So naturally she knows where I keep my money, In the Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door case in the game room. Last I counted which was 2 days ago, I had exactly 119 dollars in the case and while I counted I had noticed that 100 of that was in 5 crisp 20's, I noticed because I've always had a thing for 20's. Anyway, while she is over she asked me to get her a cup of water. No problem. So i got up and went to get some water. when I came back, she had retrieved her hair clip she had left at my house many weeks ago. This is only suspicious because her hair clip was sitting on top of a big arcade machine. There is no possible way she could have seen that thing from a sitting position, or a standing one for that matter. Thinking this a bit suspicious, I glanced up at the Paper Mario case which just so happens to be displayed right next to where her hair clip was. Only one thing, It was placed with the other AAA Gamecube title very crooked and out of place. One thing you should know is that I am rediculously OCD when it comes to things displayed in my game room. I do NOT put things back crooked, Ever! You can likely guess what my suspicions are at this point. Thinking I was just being paranoid, I forgot about it and moved on with my day. Later that night, I decided to open the Paper Mario case and check that all the money was there just for giggles. When I opened the case however I noticed something, the money was simply sitting on top of the manual. When I put my money back in that case I make it a point to slip it under the plastic clip holding the papers in te side. So anyway, I count and instantly notice something odd, there are 4 20's, not 5! Further more, I noticed my girlfriends water sitting on the table nect to the couch. Very little or none at all was drinken out of it. This leads me to believe that my girlfriend told me to get her a cup of water for the sole purpose of getting me out of the room long enough for her to swipe 20 bucks. So my question to you all at Nintendo Life is Is this really a big deal? Am I just blowing this out of proportion and making it bigger than it needs to be? I am seriously considering breaking up with her because more than a few people have told me less than flattering things about her and this is kind of the straw that may break the camel's back. I value the opinion of all users here so tell me, what do you think?

Ask her about it. If she acts odd, break up with her. It's obviously her, who else could have done it anyway?

Like the guy above me stated, I would just simply ask her about it. From your post, it seems pretty clear that she did indeed steal 20 from you. I would just ask her, and she will either be honest or not. I don't know how long you have been going out with her, but trust issues aren't a good thing to have. You would think she would just ask if she needed to borrow some money.

Yea. I wouldn't hide it in a game case. What if you were broken into and you lost all your games?

I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

i'd confront her on it. twenty bucks is a small price to pay to find out your girlfriend is a thief, man; you'll be lucky if that's all she's stolen.

Call her up, yell at her and tell all your friends that she's a thief.

No, just kidding. But you should talk to her and let her know that if she really needed money, you would help her out. If she is just taking money then she is shady and maybe you should take your friend's opinions about her seriously. But I'd definitely keep my eye on her in case she does more things.

Ask her about it in a casual way first and try to get her to fess up, and if she does not then flat out accuse her and say you know she stole $20.

I would not consider breaking up with her based on hearsay from your friends, however if she is stealing money from you then that is a huge deal. There are so many issues with someone who steals money from their boyfriend. I mean I'm sure if she asked you would spend $20 on her or loan it to her in a heartbeat, so why would she steal it? That is just a messed up person.

Also definitely move your hiding spot, something not in a game case for awhile while you figure this out.

Not to pry farther into your personal life but I'd love to hear how this plays out if you feel like putting it up here.

Maybe your mistaken that she's your girlfriend and instead a very discreet prostitute?

"Put. That. Coffee. Down. Coffee's for closers only."

Bankai

That's why I give my girlfriend all my money - saves her from having to steal it
(but then I do live with her and that money does pay bills and things)

But seriously you should let her know nicely that if she ever needs money she should ask you for help. Girls are good at subtle hints, and she'll realise that you know she took the money. Then see how she reacts. No need to be direct, that just makes people defensive.

don't let on that anything's wrong.

Next time she comes over, distract her/rob her blind, THEN bring it up--being able to dump her and make money on the deal sounds win-win.

i would torture her...psychologically of course!
make her breakfast, and arrange some part of the breakfast so it would look like a 20. tell her; "i saw 20 ducks cross over the street in front of me", or dogs, horses, whatever....say; "i bought 20 different candies today, want some?".....and uhh....say; "today at the supermarket, they gave me a 20 dollar change in 1 dollar bills....can you believe it?" etc etc. whatever suits the situation and it should blend well in the conversation.
and after a day or two of doing so (if u are sadistic and creative you can do it a whole week) u can confront her and ask her about the money.

bear trap sounds nice too....should be good to hear when it clings when you're around.

I'd avoid the line about 20 horses, because if you say that, she will say 'wow, what the hell? Where were you, to have 20 horses cross the street in front of you? I mean, 1 horse, maybe 2, but 20? That's crazy. I've never ever seen 20 horses together at the same time, let alone on the street. This is amazing. Quick, tell me everything. Are they still there? Where was this? 20 horses? Wow! Just wow!'

Then you have to waste time making up a story about 20 horses, and this would distract from what you are trying to achieve.

By the time you get to the breakfast in the shape of the number 20, the situation could have descended into chaos.

Chaos, ninji.

Safely assume she stole your money.

I'll tell you same way like I'd tell my best friend if it happened to him, she's a no-good, conniving thief and perhaps worse.

Let me guess - she wasn't there long before asking you for the water, right? She came to your place on a mission to steal your money. Premeditation. Then she asks you to fetch her some water to distract you while she does so. Conniving schemer. It was NOT a "crime of convenience" as it might have been if she were, say, doing your laundry (calm down, I'm not being sexist here) and came across 20 bucks wrinkled in your pocket and kept it without telling you. I don't even need to qualify here how disrespectful her actions were.

I'd broom her fast, dude. You got a whole lot more to lose than the remaining 80 bucks, if you know what I mean.

I think that every man should keep his space and with it some things only to him (like the place to hide the money) and my personal opinion is that a healthier relationship is the one that respects indiviual lives, and not the most opened relation. So yes, first of all change your money hiding place and think about keeping more your individual life even within a relationship.

Next, nobody holds an absolute truth, this is to say that you could've missunderstood or ignore some of the details (and therefore we in the forum also do in a "Mixed Messages" fashion ) , man she could even be leaving that clues on purpose to test you... or to cause the break. So I would ask her in a calm and clear way, just as you asked us, and whatever the outcoming were I think every person deserves a second chance (just think it twice if you are past the second chance)

Last, but not least (actually the most important point) its good to listen to people arround you, but as I said nobody holds an absolute truth or for that matter pure intentions, so that should be taken with a pinch of salt, and decide only by yourself. However this is just my personal opinion which could be wrong to say the least but I hope it helps in some way.
