It appears that Funimation will release Dragon Ball Kai in No... For those who don't know, Dragonball Z Kai is a remastered version of Dragonball Z with much higher quality animation, completly new music, completely redone dialog, and most of the filler in the original Dragonball Z is removed. In Japan, 42 episodes are already out. But since most of the filler is removed, the story is already at the beginning of the battle of Goku VS Frieza. Dragonball Z is my favorite anime series, and I can't wait for this remake.

Here is the first Japanese opening:

Oi oi, I want a US release for One Piece: Unlimited Cruise Already. What's the holdup? >: (

Normally, remakes are unecessary and serve no more purpose then an slighly updated version of the original thing (Chrono Trigger is an huge example, which makes it an unecessary roadblock to an VC release). However, this looks to well improve on the original and I'm actually pretty excited. Nice to see Funimation in charge of the remake, they did an truly fantastic job with the original on Toonami (4th favorite anime).

However, here's the question. Where will the remake be placed? Toonami is dead and Disney and Nick do not have an action block. If this is on Cartoon Network (Most likely), this could actually bring me back to the channel if the show gets good reviews. Does anyone know when this comes out?

Most of the animation is just reused from DBZ, and the new stuff is hardly of "higher quality" on a particularly consistent basis.

If by "redone" you mean "reacted", then yes. The script is completely identical save for 2 or 3 minor fixes of errors in the original script.

In the US? Funimation says "this spring" and Walmart says the first DVD is due "May 18th". Most likely it will not air on TV.

I will not comment on that.

wonder if i should get this i mean i already got 8 seasons of dragon ball z and 6 dragon ball z movies 2 on one bluray disk each

dont know why they didnt release the seasons on bluray but my guess is they could fit an entire 3 seasons on one bluray and that wouldnt give them very much money overall

I remember when Funimation started dubbing eps after the Ocean Group ones... man, the fans were screaming for blood, lol

They were screaming for blood when the Ocean Group started dubbing too, for that matter. Neither dub was well-received at all by anyone who did not have it as their first ever encounter with the series.

I thought the Funimation dub was fantastic. The Ocean Group one was ok through the Saiyan Saga and part of the Namek Saga, but the Funimation dub is many times better. I could never make myself like the Japanese versions, it is one of the few anime I prefer English. On IGN and Youtube, it is pretty much a warzone when it comes to Funimation VS Ocean Group, it is hilarious. If it is coming out in May on DVD [or Blu-Ray], I'll buy it without hesitation!
@BlackFira-I think the some of the episodes of the Japanese versions of Dragonball Kai are actually on Blu-Ray in Japan. So, Funimation might release the episodes of Dragonball Z Kai on Blu-Ray.
@Adamant-What I meant is that the dialog has been redone to follow the Dragonball manga more closely. I watched the first episode of Dragonball Kai on Youtube, and the dialog is much more closer to magna than the original Dragonball Z anime was.
@SSBF-It might air on TV, it is currently airing on Japan. Of course they edited some instances of blood and nudity in Japan, but I don't see why Funimation wouldn't air this in North America. As for which channel, I have no clue myself. Cartoon Network might be a good place for it to air though, since the original DBZ aired on that channel.

@weegee: the Funimation dub was crap when it first hit, but once they all settled into their roles, it became easier to sit through. it'll never be the original Japanese audio, but at least it's watchable. :3

Well, yeah, obviously the dialogue ends up being closer to the manga when you take out a lot of lines that weren't in the manga, but the actual lines they kept are still identical to their equivalents from DBZ. The Dragonball anime was always near-verbatim to the manga dialogue, it just liked filling gaps with new material a lot.

Are they gonna ruin this awesome theme song when they bring it to the U.S., too?

Anyways, I might watch it just to see what it's like without the filler. Granted, I'm one of those people who actually like filler episodes, since it allows for more characterization and story. I just want to see if it's any better or worse. At the very least, the pacing should be faster, but I always thought the series had a good enough pacing as is. It was just the terrible and often recycled plots that dragged it down. At the very least, it seems like the animation is greatly improved, and they kept the same style, so it's a better series remake than some of the ones I've seen.

Also, as far as Dubs from that era goes, I'd honestly say DBZ had a pretty good one. Asside from Frieza, I thought most of the voices at least fit their character.
