Pretty much the same as any fanbase for anything. There are fans that are okay, and fans who are just complete piles of excrement. Usually the former outnumbers the latter, but the latter is louder, more visible and more obnoxious.
For every one Nintendo fan who feels like they're somehow "cool" for "fighting the evil empire" by ripping on Call of Duty and Halo, there are ten who simply don't mind not having the highest resolution graphics and the variety of shooter/action/etc. franchises most commonly found on the the other systems and like the Nintendo franchises that the Wii U/3DS gives them. By the same token, for every PS3/360 owner out there who can't resist digging at the Wii's relatively weak hardware compared to the other systems (and probably the Wii U later this year), the high percentage of shovelware in its software library and the admittedly-younger audience to which much of its software skews towards (these aren't subjective statements, for the record), there are ten owners who have nothing against the Wii at all and simply prefer one or both of the other systems for their greater capabilities fitting their own tastes. Only pointing out the louder, more obnoxious side of a fanbase just propagates the stereotypes.
And then there are those that couldn't care less about the "console wars" but occasionally poke fanboys for the fun of it
