I'm sure many of you here heard in the news that the honorable Guillemo Del Toro has now made DreamWorks Animation his home for his animation dreams. It isn't surprising that Mr. Toro would feel comfy at DreamWorks as they've been quite the success ever since The Prince of Egypt and The Road To El Dorado wisked them into the spot light back in the late 90's.

Guillrmo Del Toro has undertaken the duty of taking the adorable Alma from simply having an animation short to having a feature length escapade on the big screen. Del Toro will be adapting the beautiful award winning animation short "Alma" of the former Pixar employee Rodrigo Blaas into a movie.

Alma invokes the very nature of Irwin Allen's Lost in Space and Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone and merges with the same innocent and whimsical charm mixed with a magical dash of "things that go bump in the night" the same as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and the Mel Stuart/ David L. Wolper classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory along with the Disney legend Sleeping Beauty.

I hope that Guillermo Del Toro and Rodrigo Blaas will maintain the same art style and whimsical music score as are in this original animation short along with the same character design for Alma herself. I only wonder if they'll voice Alma via Dakota Fanning?

I also hope that Del Toro won't drift to far away from the lighthearted nature of the original animation short.

DreamWorks Animation has slowly but surely proven that Disney/ Pixar are no longer the kings of Animation Domination with their recent masterpieces "Flushed Away" and "How To Train Your Dragon". Through Alma DreamWorks Animation will indeed topple the house that Disney built through such things as Monsters Inc and Bridge to Terabithia.

I sure hope that Alma will get a video game adaption for the Nintendo 3DS.

Huh, maybe Dreamworks really will stop sucking now.

Also...how is Flushed Away recent? And Bridge to Terabithia isn't even animated. >_>

@Popyman: i'm trying to figure out how Flushed Away and HtTyD were 'masterpieces', lol. also, Disney had their house built long before Monsters Inc (which was Pixar anyway) and Bridge to Terabithia (which they just distributed) came out. :/

Well where I live, (Atlanta, GA) the college (Art Institute of Atlanta: Decatur) of which I'm getting ready to attend gives high praise to Flushed Away as the creator of that movie teachers animation. Many of the people from Cartoon Network also teach classes at the campus.

Plus, all you've got to do is read the news and you'll see How To Train Your Dragon is continually getting praise right and left. Pick up the latest issues of TV Guide Magazine and Animation Insider to see all the praise How To Train Your Dragon has gotten or head over to movies.ign.com if you've got the time. I really enjoyed How To Train Your Dragon and Flushed Away along with Kung Fu Panda.

BTW The Black Dragon did you enjoy Shark Tale?

How to train your Dragon was surprisingly good, but overall Dreamworks can't compare to Pixar, which can't compare to Disney, especially during the "Disney Renaissance" (1989-1999), back when they regularly did (amazing) traditional animation. I was really excited to see Disney return to that for Princess Frog, but then that movie sucked.

I guess that's neat. It's nice to see small projects getting expanded upon, but I really don't know anything about Alma at all, so I just don't care enough to give any praise or hatred to this news.

Oh, and this was my first reaction:

ah, i think i get it -- you're probably confusing industry opinions with what the general public thought, lol. if animators think Flushed Away was amazing, 's whatev', but as a layman i thought it was pretty lame lol. same for Shark Tale, sry2say. Dreamworks ain't got nothin' on Disney or Pixar in terms of a vividly compelling movie that I will want to watch again and again.

I really am not a fan of Del Toro's work. I was relieved when I heard he was not going to make The Hobbit.

I was deeply sad about that, he's a perfect fit for The Hobbit. Now we're going to get a CGI filled movie...

Peter Jackson is directing The Hobbit now. I didn't feel that the Lord of the Rings trilogy used too much CGI, did you?

idk, Popyman -- i think it makes sense for Peter Jackson to also do The Hobbit since he did LotR. unless the director did a particularly poor job at the first movie in a series, it helps to keep everything cohesive if the same director with the same initial vision of that particular world keeps on going with it, y'know? :3

Huh, I didn't know he was directing...I thought he ticked of some higher ups and they wouldn't let him?

Well to be honest, I really enjoyed The Princess and the Frog although I didn't see the ending of the film. It was refreshing to see Disney return to traditional animation at long last. I'm glad that Disney has a few traditionally animated shows left airing on the Disney Channel like FishHooks and Phineas and Ferb. I miss the Buzz on Maggie a lot.

As for DreamWorks, I'm sorry you guys didn't like Shark Tale. However, Disney and Pixar are indeed the kings at the moment but all that will soon change as DreamWorks is proving that they've got the "right stuff". I really liked Kung Fu Panda, Shark Tale and How To Train Your Dragon along with Flushed Away.

Personally, I think that Kung Fu Panda and Flushed Away would make great television shows on Nickelodeon channel.

As far as Del Toro, Peter Jackson and The Hobbit mmm? I think it is only fair that Mr. Jackson get to helm The Hobbit as I think he did a great job with the LOTR Trilogy. I'm happy that Del Toro is on to better things at DreamWorks working on getting TrollHunters, Puss in Boots and Alma off to an early start.

BTW please visit this link and post with the hopes that Sean Szeles can get The Buzz on Maggie back on television!

I can't believe that Dreamworks would come out with a movie starring Alma, so what Alma are we talking about?
