Yeahp, Donkey Kong and Star Fox.

Nintendo still hasn't fixed them yet and made them into the prominent franchises they could be.

Agreed.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was the best DK game in years and the other games were just horrid.

As for Star Fox, Assault was okay, It would`ve been awesome if they didn`t have the 3-D levels. And Command? Not so great.

Just for you.

Well, they've never exactly been number 1 in Nintendo's franchise hierarchy. Which is very sad, IMO.

I don't see why everyone is going nuts over this. I already have a Wii so a price cut wouldn't make my experience any better because I have already paid for it. You could argue that the more that sell the more third parties are going to jump on board with exclusives and interesting games but.... I think there are already enough Wiis sold for that to happen and you could argue that it already is happening.

I can understand why Nintendo its shareholders might be concerned about this but unless they go bankrupt (unlikely) there really aren't any reasons why I should care about this.

Hmmm - but - why would Nintendo stockholders want the company to drop price and give away money for consoles that have not flagged in sales?

Wii, DS hardware sales are very, very strong - did ppl foget that Wii is the fastest selling home consoel in gaming history? And I believe DS is the fastest selling portable....

This is llike a football game where the home team is 56-0 with a minute left in the first half and suddenly the other team kicks a fieldgoal and the fans of the home team figure the game is going to be lost, want all new players, want to replace the headcoach and the GM, and decide 'their team' was never any good in the first place.

Very strange.

Yup I second/third that. This is just a fluctuation due to the price decrease and heavy marketing by Sony in order to publitize said decrease.

The same thing will happen with the Wii when a new color comes out, or a new bundle. A little blimp, followed by a stabilization. We're already deep enough into our current console sale cycle that I doubt any serious long-term shift will occur for this current console generation. And that's not even mentioning that even if Sony/Microsoft somehow doubled their sales compared to that of the Wii every month from now on it would take YEARS to just catch up.

And for those of you saying that the Wii doesn't have quality games coming soon you must be out of your mind. I can't think of a better system right now, games wise, for the next 12 months. (And this without mention of any rumored/desired titles. Just what's been CONFIRMED to be coming out) Would a Starfox/Kirby/Icarus/F-Zero/Pilotwings be nice? Sure, but that doesn't mean there isn't a killer lineup already locked and loaded.

The hardware base is in place so they seem to finaly be focusing on the software. That's a huge luxury that only Nintendo can enjoy at this time. Six months ago I was worried about my Wii's library, and was considering getting a second system. Now? Not so much.

Wii has been the cheapest console from the start the others were bound to catch up eventually. The price definitely made me buy a Wii originally.
It's just bad to hear Nintendo say they need to put more effort into making better games. Kind of an admission that they could be doing a lot better on the games front. Compared to my previous console I reckon there is a big lack of Top Notch games. I am not saying they aren't there but they are far and few between.
I am not selling my Wii because of this but I'll probably get a 2nd console to give me a wider range of games to choose from.
I felt the same about my DS when I first got it but now I'm very happy with what's available there so the Wii will be the same no doubt.

To the people saying that everybody already has a Wii: No, that's not why sales are dropping. The Wii has only sold about a third the consoles in lifetime sales as the PS2, and it has a larger target demographic. The console's price is really starting to look like a joke now, though. Only $50 cheaper than a PS3 or 360 Elite (and $50 MORE than a 360 Arcade)? Hardly a fair difference given the massive difference in technology in the consoles. This IS going to hurt Nintendo until the Wii's price drops, whether they want to admit it or not.

That said, I've worked at Gamestop for almost two years (started for the Christmas '07 season), and I can tell you with certainty that Wii sales WILL pick up closer to Christmas as the so-called "casual" gamers and non-thinking gift-givers start searching for it again. Fact is, there's a whole set of people who don't even TRY to find a Wii between January and October, the morons. And the release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii will doubtlessly help as well.

I agree that there isn't much reason for Nintendo and its shareholders to be worried but if there is anyone who should care and possibly be concerned about a drop in sales its Nintendo and its shareholders NOT gamers. I also don't see why people who already have a Wii are quite literally begging for Nintendo to cut the price. I already own the console why would I want them to drop the price?

@Tails86: Needlenose is supposed to be "HD," which means it'll be on PS3 and/or 360. It might be on Wii as well, but it won't be as good, most likely.

@skywake: I want to see the Wii drop price because I work gaming retail, and it's embarassing seeing such a small price difference between it and the bigger, more powerful boys. It makes selling the system harder, believe it or not. It just doesn't look like a very good value for the price anymore. I'm also well aware that there are plenty of stingy people who have been waiting for a price drop before they even seriously CONSIDER buying a Wii. I want Nintendo to reach those people just as much as everyone else.

i agree with Stuffgamer... but for slightly different reasons than his retail background. i too want to see the Wii sell more because of a lower price, but for more selfish reasons. the more Wii owners there are, the more Wii games are developed. and while yes, 98% is crap, or next to crap, or a little better than crap, or even decent, there's still that 2% of greatness in there. and the more of that i can get, the happier i am with my console.

^At the same time this is not about Wii sales nosediving below PS3 levels, it is about the PS3 price drop sales bump above Wii sales.

So this topic makes no sense

@Orlick Good point. Have Wii sales dropped or just PS sales increased?
Still no-one seems concerned if Nintendo ACTUALLY said they need to improve the games they are releasing, that's the comment that makes me wonder how much commitment they've put into new games. (I still don't class re-releasing old games with new controls much of an effort.)

Yes, Wii sales HAVE been dropping. They're down from the same time last year, for example. So while it's true that price drops from the other two are having a big impact on the relative sales of the units, that doesn't mean that the Wii isn't selling reltatively poorly on its own.

Thing is, I think sales are low because there are no big (new) titles out now. Sorry to offend any Muramasa fan. If the sales still continue like this throughout the holiday season, then that would be bad news for the Wii.

Wii is selling relativly great, are you mad? It has outsold PS3 and 360 put together for a long time. Sales are not down that much, and the rest of the industry has dropped in this economy far more than Nintendo.

Nintendo is EASILY in the best position of any company in the game industry, it is not even close.

But go ahead and beat that drum.
