i think it's absolutely as worthless as everybody says it is (stinking massive ipod).... but i may be pitching in to get one for my mom. she's legally blind and can no longer read even large-print books, so the ability to have something handheld like that that she can blow up to whatever size she needs could be such an enormous blessing for her and let her finally lay in bed and read a book at night, or things of that nature. so for her, it would be worth it. for me, i'm not paying any company more money for a bigger version of a device that can't do as much as the original.

I think it's like WaltzElf said, the iPad screen is by design inferior to ereader screens for ebooks.

Its not silly at all, it entirely pales in comparison to a netbook, so why not compare it to an MP3 player?

I dunno how many netbooks you've used, but I am pretty comfortable saying that the iPad is almost guaranteed to be more usable.

I am pretty comfortable in saying that you are wrong.
Hardware: touchscreen, not bad of a size of a screen, multi-task-err, wait, that is a no go.
Software: tons of apps, book apps too, and...oh, hold on a sec, that is it, you only get what Apple says you can get. You do not have a choice of operating system either.
The only thing that would make it close to a netbook would be to crack it and add linux. But then again, you could always just get a netbook for under $600 instead.
iPad = iPhone + bigger screen + larger price tag

Netbooks are terrible at multitasking because of their low power. They also have terrible keyboards for any kind of typing, which is 90% of their functionality.

What you've said there doesn't prove me wrong in the slightest. It's just random anti-Apple ranting.

Ravage

Right, because having even lower power and an even smaller keyboard (depending on the size of the netbook) makes it better.

@Waltz - to be fair, being "terrible" at multitasking and being unable to multitask are two entirely different things. I'm able to run a browser, listen to music, AIM, and explore my computer if need be on my bottom-of-the-line, sub 200 dollar 8.9 inch Acer with no slowdown whatsoever (in both XP and linux). Opening a document or 2 on top of that is no problem--hell I've been playing a PS1 emulator with my Javabeans IDE open and it's been fine. Virtually every netbook out there is better than mine. 92% keyboards are fine as well--certainly no more difficult than a similarly-downsized keyboard via touchscreen that occupies a good 1/3 of the viewable space, and I doubt the learning curve is any longer (I was comfortable with it in about 5 days). If you wanna do a price comparison, a 600 dollar netbook would mop the floor with the iPad (and would probably have a larger keyboard too). The only real argument is battery life--and again, if you're comparing similarly-priced items, this would also not be an issue (mine lasts a good 2.5 hours unplugged, max brightness, in-use and cost less than an iPod classic).

It is not about hating Apple, it is just a bad product. The iPhone is a good product (although, Blackberry is right in there too), and the iPods were usually better than most competition, now they have it down pretty good. I still get my non-iPod though because it is cheaper and I do not like iTunes. Some like the iPod Touch, some do not, I think it is pretty good myself.

Glad to heard that the Dsi shop isnt gonna have the most expensive downloadable games any more(.at least as far as portable gaming goes). The Ipad can gladly take that honor away from us Dsi owners.
