Topic: Can we never ever ever have another flash ad again please?

It kind of sucks that just being in chat is using up 30% of my CPU, and besides slowing down Safari it's heating up my brand-new MBP way more than it should be.

I'm not blocking ads because I know they're necessary for you guys to keep things going, but this is extremely irritating. HTML5 ads plz?

Are you serious? It hasn't done anything on my end. Not even on my 3DS and Ipod Touch.

I know those doesn't have flash, but the fact that the lack of the ad isn't slowing it down is still surprising

i hate to say it, but It's actually been slowing me down quite a bit — idk what it is about this ad in particular, but it's been unusually bad ever since it showed up. it's only temporary, though, and leaving them on is for a good cause (keeping our servers paid for!), so i'll be okay waiting it out until it's over.

Flash ads are always horrible.

Particularly the ones that play sounds without your consent. It's just rude.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

It's better than those ads that play loud YouTube videos on the side of the site, leaving you scrambling for the button to close the ad, or at least to mute it.

The ads are generated by the agency so sadly we don't have any control over how much CPU they use, however from the best of my knowledge they meet all the IAB guidelines: http://www.iab.net/ad_unit

I imagine flash adverts will decline over the next year or so - it's a dying technology - we'll push whenever we can to improve quality!

As you said, they are required (we can't run a site of this size for free!) so please don't block them
