Topic: Dsi Ware Platformers

Hello veryone, these thread is to talk about DSi Ware platformers, they are only (if im not wrong) 7 platfromers games in the DSi ware shop;
Rayman
Earthworm Jim
Castle of Magic
Dark Void Zero
Prehistoric Man
Oscar in Toyland
Oscar in Movieland
Foto Face
Chronos Twins
Soul of Darkness

I got 3 of them, the most recently and the most I like is Dark Void Zero, its is a great game, it is definitive a must buy. Bad thing is that you can't svae it, it is a higscore game.

Rayman, Oh go, I really hate these game, its boring, long, difficult and cost 800 points!!!! In my opinion don't buy these game, don't waste 8$ on these!

Castle of Magic, decent platformer, I like it, the camera option was not sooo awesome, and it is really easy and short, (extreme easy) the lives are like diamonds you find by tons in all of the game and the bosses where a piece of cake, but if you wan't to try it, it is fun (for 3 days max, after that you pass it)

So I have already play Earthworm Jim on a ipod, I find it great but idk, can you save it? Do you recommend it?

you left out the 2 oscar games(movieland,toyland?) and Prehistorik Man.
Maybe their are a few more but im not sure.

I've got 4 platformers myself, so I guess i'll give you a quick rundown about them.

Rayman- I like my platformers long and difficult. This game is both so I have to say this my favorite one in the shop right now.

Dark Void Zero- This game has a old school feel to it with a twist. You get to fly around with a jet pack strap to your back. Do I really gotta say any more. AWESOME!

Castle of Magic- Short, boring, and super easy.

Earth Worm Jim- I really didnt know if I wanted to get this one after the other 500 point platformer I DL for Gameloft sucked @$$, but I missed this game as a little one so figured ”what the hay”. Well...I havent gotten to far into it yet but so far im really enjoying this one. Unlike Castle of Magic I actually died on their easy mode . This game doesnt seem to long, but I like how they have 2 difficulty options(3 would have been great) to pick from. I dont like how you have to press the jump button twicebwhile in mid-air just to activate the glide feature. Other then that I have no problems with this one. Also its neat how they included a level select in this game, but I dont care to much about the camera use in this one.
Oh... and I like that Gameloft didnt try to overcharge us for this classic game like they did with UNO.

No saving while your in the middle of a level, but they do have check points in Earthworm Jim(at least for the easy mode).

I did like how the camera was used and the graphics were pretty good in Castle of Magic.

So well I really don't like rayman, really don't like it at all, but well I see that you think copletly different, so welcome to the word of different opinions!!!

And about the camera In castle of magic, come on, I take a picture of a red thing and it says 30% green...

@hulk: You also left out Foto Face from EA. I don't have it but from the gameplay videos I would count it as a platformer.

I have Rayman, Dark Void Zero and Castle of Magic. Like DVZ the best.

Castle of Magic isn't that bad. Its akin to a Kirby game. Its rather easy, but its still fun to play.

Agree that Dark Void Zero is a great game. Its hard, but in that great retro way that megman is.

I have held off on the Rayman and Earthworm Jim ports. I don't like the zoomed in nature of Rayman much. If I really want to play Rayman on the go, I will hunt down the GBA release, which seems to be the superior version. As for Eathworm Jim, I have the Sega CD release (well burned copy for now) with CD Audio. I prefer that one.

Earthworm Jim is pretty solid. Just downloaded it yesterday and played thru a lot of it. I was skeptical, but am actually really impressed by it. I am surprised I'm not hearing more hype about it around...

Chronos Twins is a very good platform but also is very retro.

You missed the Foto Face game from EA. I thought that game was okay, but more for younger kids (mainly because of he camera and sound recording options) I guess.

lol.... i didnt seem to have any trouble from the camera as long as I was in a bright room or outside.

@ GumbyX84: Despite me referring to COM as a “suck @$$” game, I wouldnt say it all that bad either(got a 5/10 from me in the “rate your DSiware collection” thread ). Mainly because of the skill level I think this game wasnt meant for a seasoned platformer gamer. Geared more towards younger and less expereince gamers this game works quite well, IMHO.

Its doing pretty well on the top 20 charts so it isnt going unnotice in the DSiware shop (though I think the 500 point price tag helps as well).

Anyway I agree that CoM is probably not for our generation. Wish it was though, as I really want a good platformer I've never played before. I've already played and gotten close to beating Rayman, and Earthworm Jim is a little too "shootie" for my taste. I'd love a platformer in the vain of Kirby: Easy to get into, but gets more challenging later on. I'm hoping the Shantae games will fit that description.

I think that Rayman DSiware is my fav title. Awsome graphics, an absolute symphony for a soundtrack and is long unlike the jittery and mediocre Castle Of Magic. I love Dark Void Zero as well but the gameplay isn't all that exiting and the soundtrack did not live up to the expectations I had for it.

That's an all-star line-up right there lol.

The only platformers I have on my DSi are Castle of Magic and Dark Void Zero. Yes, CoM isn't the best, but for the short time, I did enjoy it a bit. DVZ on the other hand, was both fun and tough; I heard from GoNintendo that they want to make a sequel, which would be great. I have 1,200 pts left on my DSi, which I am saving solely for Shantae....come out already!
