I've already played it through several times since it was released for download. It's flawed, but I've definitely gotten my money's worth.

...it's reeeeeally making me antsy for Mega Man V Game Boy though!

I am seriously thinking about adding this one to my VC collection. As for MMV we have a long wait for that one look how long its taken Capcom to release MM 5 on the Wii VC.

Ugh, yeah, don't remind me.

Well, actually there is a better chance of GB Mega Man V coming to the 3DS VC.

Other than Bionic Commando which is confirmed for coming later in the year, Capcom only has Street Fighter II and Mega Man 2 - 5 to release from their Game Boy catalogue. They can't release the Disney games so we won't count them.

Whereas with the Wii Virtual Console, they had a wide range of games to release that many are still unreleased.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Didn't Capcom publish some game called "Shantae" or something like that for the GBC that I've heard was pretty good?

Exactly.

As a kid I only had SEGA consoles, so I dont have a background playing Mega Man except for when I played the games at NES owning friends houses. I did Download 9 and 10 and I really like the retro style, but found them very difficult (except for 10 on easy mode).

Downloaded the GB game and I really enjoyed playing it, I used save states on the first play through, especially at the start of the boss fights (getting sent back to play the level again was easier when you're a kid with a lot of time on your hands), but overall found it a great little game. I think the 'zoomed in' style of the graphics works fine, the levels are designed in relation to the screen size, just like the better Master System ports to Game Gear.

Yeah, but I was only listing b&w GB games there. They also have a bunch of GBC games to release too. But since GBC is largely neglected right now, I didn't see fit to name them.

Fair enough. My sarcasm was because I thought you sounded less than logical with your post, but your explanation makes that make sense.

Also, although it is possible Capcom could publish Shantae again, its not one of their own games. I'm thinking WayForward is more likely to publish the GBC version if it appears.

IIRC, WayForward wasn't in a position to publish games themselves originally and had to get someone to publish the game for them. These days they can publish their own games.

Got this a week ago, and it is as challenging as I remembered. Good old retro megaman action, it may not be as memorable as its NES cousin, but its definitely harder. No matter how many times I beat this, it never gets old. I just wish Capcom would have the competence to release the other 4 games sooner than how they released their NES VC games. So far I'm planning on attempting a perfect run for this game save state what?

After finishing the game for the third time, it makes me wonder though, is Megaman 9&10 a possibility for the eShop? Can their native resolutions match the 3DS' screen? I mean, I'm not saying this should happen, but I'd be really glad if it does. Finished 9 recently and am now playing through 10, but I'll still buy them again if it means I can play them in portable form.

I'd kill for MM9's Endless Mode on the 3DS.

MM10's is good too, of course, but for some reason I don't find it to be as much fun.

Absolute fantasy territory: Capcom releases an eShop-only Mega Man game that's nothing but endless mode, with enemies from every game and weapons assigned randomly (8 per play) from Mega Man's entire back catalogue when the game starts. Sometimes you get to hurl Metal Blades, Elec Beams and Triple Blades like crazy, and other times you need to make do with Bubble Lead, Hyper Bomb and Skull Barrier.

I'd play that game all day, every day.

I got SML 2 today and had enough left over for another game so I went ahead and purchased this one. Think I am set with games for awhile now.

Have you played MMII for GB, out of curiosity? It's pretty horrible. The music is trash (and often paired with the wrong robot master), the sprites are hideous and totally disproportionate, and it controls terribly (among other things).

It could be worse, of course, but it's easily the worst "official" Mega Man game I've ever played.

Needless to say, it'll be the only Mega Man game Dazza lets me review.

Yeah Mega man 2 on Gameboy was messed up. It's gotta be the worst game of all. As far as classic series games go.
Here's a little snippet about the development from Wiki.

Series artist Keiji Inafune admitted that the poor design quality of Mega Man II was the result of Capcom's outsourcing the game's development to a different company than the one that had worked on Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge.[2] The developer for Mega Man II had very little knowledge of the series. For the next game in the Game Boy line, they decided to forgo using the developer for Mega Man II again.[2]

Are MMIII and IV simular to their NES counterparts, or are they more original like how MM is for the GB?

They're like the original GB MM. MMIV in particular is very good.

I used to own Gameboy Mega man 2 and honestly as a kid I thought it was okay. I later realized that something was very off about it. It didn't seem right somehow. I only bought it because I was blindly buying anything with the Mega man name.
Then I found out the truth of how screwed up it was. If nothing else you may still wanna check it out just for a laugh.

@Waveboy Pretty much what the other users said regarding MMII being the weakest in the series. But what I want to add is personal. I really disliked how they handled the Megaman killer Quint. He was the easiest boss in the game and really, can you accept that the future Megaman will return evil and fight the present hero with a Pogostick? I think I know now why he was omitted from the MM10 dlc. But other than that, it is still a pretty decent game, I just found myself playing the 1st and 3rd game more. I still rate it higher than the MM7 (and to a lesser extent, the PC and wonderswan games).

Quint isn't a Mega Man Killer, which is also why he's absent from MM10.

Enker is all about keeping distance and reacting to his actions quickly. Jump if he runs, run if he jumps. There's no trick, it's just a reaction endurance test.

The MM2 robot masters all have slight weaknesses to MM1 master weapons that can win you a shootout if you're good at avoiding their attacks to a fair degree. Quick Man is also toned down a lot, and has that "get stuck in a corner" move - avoiding his boomerangs is near-impossible, but as long as you can dodge his other attacks, he's beatable without halving his life meter with Time Stopper. Flash Man dies very easily to Fire Storm, which you DO have when you get to him, so he's no problem.

. And what was Bubble man's weakness anyways?

Dunno. He's weak enough against Rolling Cutter that I can take him out easily without trying MM2 master weapons
