Topic: Would You Like to See More Pokemon Sequels?

Posts 1 to 20 of 32

Just 2 years ago, Game Freak made an unprecedented move for the Pokemon series, instead of making a third version like they usually did for Black and White, they made sequels Black 2 and White 2. Instead of having the same game as the first two with an edited plot to incorporate the third mascot, it took place in the same region but had a new storyline that took place after the original, new protagonists, new areas, and an expanded Unova Dex to include past gen Pokemon. Would you like to see more sequels? If so, to what games? If not, what do you think they should do instead? Discuss.

sure, why not?
but I'd like if they didn't make the previous MC simply disappear completely.... it's weird

Well considering that the protagonists are typically little more than avatars for the player, there's not much they could do with them. I would like to battle the originals protagonists a la Red, though.

It wasn't that unprecedented. They did something similar with gold/silver/crystal being somewhat sequels to red/blue/yellow.

I would like to see them give another game a sequel, but it would need to have a great story that would warrant a continuation of that story. Black/ White had the best story in a pokemon game to date imo, so having a sequel to that story felt right. X and Y on the other hand, had one of the worst, most half baked stories in a pokemon game ever, so I don't want to see a sequel to those games.

A continuation of diamond and Pearl would be interesting. I feel that generation had some of the best pokemon lore that they could easily work a sequel into. They could make Arceus the main legendary pokemon.

I don't think having a bad storyline means that they can't make a good sequel since you can practically build it from scratch. At any rate, there's more to it than just story, I think the Kalos region could use the BW2 treatment. The region just feels incomplete, there's tons of unused space on the map (west of Vaniville, east of Kiloude, northeast of Frost Cavern), less optional areas to explore, and the worst post game in recent history (since RSE as a matter of fact). They also only used the northern half of France, but I don't really see them doubling the size of Kalos anytime soon, so that might not happen.

Sure why not? As long as it's not a sequel to those absolutely bad Pokemon games.

X & Y is love and hate relationship, mainly on hate. The soundtrack was completely horrible and forgettable (barring a few hits, cough Kanto cough), the story was so bad and cringeworthy, so easy, the worst end game content ever coincevied in a Pokemon game. It felt like a test product for their new engine. This is the one Pokemon title I will sell and happily forget it's existence and not fondly remember years down the line.

I would love to see a sequel to the Sinnoh based games, which changed up a lot. The games in question added a lot new features (underground digging), very interesting ost, locations and good post game content, which would be interesting to see return to a future Pokemon game as well.

As long as each game has something to offer (More move tutors, megas, etc.) then I'm perfectly fine with it. Storylines better improve as well as x/y was a train wreck.. pokemon z better have one heck of a story to recover from that.

I liked Black 2/White 2 better than Black/White. I loved that they continued their story two years later. They were better than the originals when it came to Pokemon available at the start and areas to see. I liked Black City and White Forest better in the sequels too.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

I actually really liked having only new Pokemon at the beginning, and hope they do that again someday. You can only carry 6 at a time, why do I need 600 to choose from before I've even beaten the game? 100 or so Pokemon is all I need for the Gyms. I don't like being bombarded with choice.

(That's only one of the many problems I had with Black 2, though...don't even get me started on the downright insulting level of writing and design...)

I don't think it was that, it was mainly the fact it was the only pokemon game without geodude, zubat, and pikachu on every NPC's team.

It was amazing how much better the games were without those..

Being bombarded by choice is far from the worst problem to have, because well, it's a choice. You don't have to use all 300 of those Pokemon, picking 6 of those shouldn't be too hard. I think BW1 went about the Unova Dex all wrong, for one I don't think 156 Pokemon is enough to work with, regional dexes should really be around 200-300 (ideally somewhere in the upper half of that range). Two, many of the new 5th gen Pokemon felt like knock offs of older ones (such as Woobat and Roggenrola being substitutes for Zubat and Geodude), which ruined their "fresh start" approach, a fresh start would be if the Pokemon were completely original and had absolutely no ties to previous Pokmeon.

I do think BW2 could've been handled a little better though. For one, they didn't really change much distribution wise, many of the Pokemon that were added were just post game Pokemon that showed up in areas that were then made part of the main game. Might not sound like a big problem until you consider some of the horrible implications of that approach, like how many of the Pokemon added to the Unova Dex were in those areas and couldn't be accessed until late game. Other gameplay aspects such as the Day Care also suffered from this problem, it went from being early game in BW1 to post game in BW2 and we lost the ability to breed in the main gameplay, something I'm sure a lot of players were not fond of. So I think future sequels should be better planned.

We'll have to agree to disagree, since I liked all the new Pokemon and I don't see the corolationbs you just mentioned...and being bombared with choice is not good for someone with ADD and minor obsessive tendencies. It's hard to keep my team settled when they're constantly dangling cool Pokemon in front of my face. How can I not change my team every 5 minutes when my next favorite Pokemon is always right around the corner?

I agree that the game map felt barren and the post game was awful, but those problems could be fixed with a third version like a "Pokemon Z". In order for there to be a sequel then it would need to be able to pick up where X and Y left off story wise, but there was hardly a story in the first place so there's no where for the sequels to go. Also I NEVER want to see team Flare ever again. They were downright the worst evil team in Pokemon history.

Post game could be fixed yeah, but everything else? Not so much, they're going to be limited in what they could add to the region if they have to follow the original storyline path.

Again, that hardly stops them from building a new story since they can always just build it up from scratch. I think it would be interesting if Malva resurrects Team Flare for something Zygarde related (maybe Zygarde ties into the Ultimate Weapon somehow or she wants to use its power to "bring order" to Kalos).

The main problem with x/y was it was mainly just unexplained. All we learned was that somebody's pokemon went to a war which started for whatever reason, he built a machine to bring it back to life, and the machine killed everybody. Yet somehow the world repopulated or something and now this team flare wants to kill everything again to make a world beautiful for a very unlogical and unexplained reason.

If they gave us more backround info like.. "How is the world not beautiful now in their perspective? How is it going to turn beautiful? Why did the war start? Did yveltal or xerneas even do anything significant? Where the creators of the halo fanchise involved? So many unanswered questions.

It makes the game shift from a casual pokemon trainer.. to a sudden, UH OH THE END IS NEAR for 5 minutes.. back to a normal trainer. Atleast in past gens they give you some kind of build up to the villians and their plans to control/capture legendary pokemon. X/Y was just too sudden and makes the legendaries almost seem like it wouldn't make a difference if they didn't exsist since they never talked about the significance of those pokemon for their plans.

Maybe if they went with something like.. "We must control teh legendary yveltal to destroy everything until we're the only ones left" Or.. "We must control xerneas to become enternal and make new life in the world" would be more fitting. Zygarde could be the one who would undo or prevent these changes forcing them to control him as well in pokemon Z.

Safe to say the ending after the e4 was really good however.

We'll maybe they will touch on it in the sequel or sequels. I would like to know what the war is about.

X was a bit better about it than Y, from what I gather. I recall the Flare leader's motivations being clearer than that, though my head aches so I'm not sure I could say exactly what off the top of my head...
