Topic: What would you think if they made a Splatoon game on 3DS

Why make it 2D when the 3DS is perfectly capable of producing 3D visuals?

About KI:U the game controls fine after a little play time, I never understood all the reviewers complaining about it.

no proper second circle pad? no fast paced shooter.
stylus aiming is horrible IMO. if you can play like that then good for you but a lot of people can not

You don't need a 2nd circle pad if it's 2D.

how could splatoon work in 2D? that would be such a downgrade. especially with a sidescrolling perspective.
top-down could work but 3rd person is best for the gameplay.

I don't think Splatoon would work top-down. Jumping and vertical motion seems to be an important part of the map design, particularly when integrated with the squid form. Top-Down gameplay generally works when most of the action is lateral.

As a side scroller, I think it very much could work. Instead of a large 3D map, you'd have a large 2D map, filled with walls, platforms, drops, etc. They could even take it to the next level with a foreground-background mechanic of sorts. I was also thinking you could shoot into the plane to travel along the wall as a squid, though that idea's not fully fleshed out in my head.

Just because it can handle 3D visuals doesn't mean it can handle every sort of 3D game ever. Splatoon seems like a really fast-paced game with a lot of things going on at once (particularly all the paint splattering physics), and I have trouble believing that the 3DS can handle all that at 60fps. I'm not a game designer, so I definitely can't say for sure, but that's just the impression I get.

@Turnip-Forest IIRC critics did complain about the game's control scheme, but (again iirc) most of them complained that it was uncomfortable, not hard to use. Personally, I didn't find it uncomfortable, and so I loved the game.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
