I would assume that points cards will just be converted when you use them and will then be gradually phased out and replaced with eShop cards.
I doubt it. It's too complex for Nintendo to additionally add a small, for most meaningless operation when they are extremely busy elsewhere with things that could be a lot more useful, doing this would be counter-productive for Nintendo, in a sense of time wasted, rather than money.
I've heard people saying they were able to buy the eShop cards at BestBuy, but nowhere else. It would be nice if we could still use the Nintendo points cards on the eShop, but there's probably one major reason they're not carrying them forward: retailers that charge $25 for a 2000-point card. Imagine the complaints if people paid $25, then loaded the card and noticed they were only credited with $20. At least cash cards will stop any retailers from overcharging for the cards now.
Please sign my petition to get a European (and Australian) release for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS. Don't let Europe be deprived of another amazing game.
It would mean you losing money, though. 1 DSiWare point equals 1.111p. (i.e it's £9 for 1000).
Sorry, I'm in the US. Over here 1000 points is $10 for both Wii and DSi. I was trying to say that converting points cards to the amount of money they're worth wouldn't be hard at all.

My point precisely. Well no but at least you were wrong. Ha

Your point was that Nintendo doesn't know how much the cards are worth.
I remember when 2000 points used to cost £15. I suppose atleast if they bring in a monetary system it will stop shops charging over the odds, I mean Argos sell 1000 points for £12.99
