With all the mixed reviews it would be interesting ro read each others' impressions. I'm (hopefully) not the only one who pre-ordered this game, so this is to anyone who is going to play this: Please share your first and final thoughts here. If my 3DS arrives today I will probably post my first impressions somewhere in the evening.

I have it preordered too...chances are I'm not gonna be able to get to my 3DS until next week, but I'll be sure to inform via this topic as soon as that happens.

Love me some Monkeyball, even if the stages seem a little more linear than I like (what happened to SMB2 stage layouts? )

Well, I played it for a bit. Since the Monkey Ball mode was for me the thing that made me buy it, I can already say something. World 1 and 2 are short, really short : in 20 minutes I finished them, without even rushing that much. Anyway, the 3D is kinda weird : while street fighter's is smooth and doesn't need to adapt, in SMB, I feel awkward playing it. It doesn't give me headaches or anything, it's just that my eyes need to adapt harder than in Street.
The gyro-sensor controls work really well, but playing with the 3D is worth nothing. I feel that by next week, the game will have vanished of my shelf if the content is small. I doubt it and I hope not. The game for me isn't really worth 45 Euros/$. I paid it 10, so I definitely feel I've got my money's worth.

I've got it pre-order with GAME (£24.99 when brought with a 3DS). Not a bad price
Will be trying it tomorrow! Cant wait!!!

Can someone who has played the game tell me how well it compares to 1 and 2. From all the videos I have seen of this version it looks much easier, much slower pace, and less interesting level designs. Are there any levels that are just high speed ramps, have curved edges, stop/go/fast forward, switches, crazy glass spheres that bash you through the floor, skyscrapers to launch up, or crazy shifting and spinning platforms? From what I've seen in videos none of these appear to be present.

For now, it is not sadistic at all. I'm going to further check out and tell you by tomorrow.

I've only played world 1 so far and I breezed through it within 4 minutes (yes, that's right. 10 stages in 4 minutes). You couldn't even fall off in any of them. I assume that it will get harder later on. And I agree with you Issun, the 3D effects probably take a while to get used to and I hope that it will grow on you. Sadly, I don't have another 3DS game to compare the 3D effects.

Compared to SSF4, it is quite painful, as for Fighter, the 3D is really easy on the eyes, you just look at the game and bam, 3D. Here, you really have to get used to it. I thinks it is just a matter of habbit.

Currently I'm 45 minutes in and I've beaten the first 3 worlds. I really enjoyed playing through world 3 and I'm starting to get used to the 3D effects. The game is increasing in difficulty fortunately and I hope it will continue to do so. I also like the happy music and the colourful stages, so I'm definitely a lot more positive then earlier today.

My dad, who never plays games, was very impressed by the 3DS and the 3D in Super Monkey Ball. Even though he fell off within mere seconds in world 2 he was surprised by how gorgeous this game is. He also played Monkey Fight without touching the buttons, because he was too busy screaming "look at that ship in the background!" and "wow, he (AiAi) almost landed in my face!" (the part where AiAi is launched from a cannon).

I've played up to the first 3 worlds as well and I'm really enjoying it. An ideal family 3ds launch game for all kinds of gamers imho

I've been replaying Super Monkey Ball Jr. in anticipation of this game, and wow, I forgot how nightmarish some of the levels are. If this game is too easy, maybe it's a blessing compared with the frustration of restarting the same level over and over every 10 seconds.

Finished the main mode in 1h45, played each other mode for 10 minutes, didn't really enjoy it... The monkey Ball mode is fantastic, but too short, and little replayability for me, so I sold it, and gained 16 Euros in the process. I took Okamiden with it.
So I'm a bit disappointed, but it is worth buying at a budget price. For 10 Euros, it is worth it. More, I feel more hesitant. 25 Euros max.

That's too bad, but I agree with you that it is way too easy.

I'm currently 6 worlds in and my playtime is 1:15 in Monkey Ball mode. I also tried out Monkey Race yesterday, which was pretty good IMO. There seem to be a lot of character/vehicle unlockables and I like that in a game. I don't think that I regret my purchase, it is a decent game and worth checking out. It is indeed not worth the full price, but I only paid 20 euros for it.

I really enjoyed this game. Went back and perfected the entire game and I've unlocked everything in all three modes. Loved that Kororinpa feel to it. That being said, I would have liked to have seen more worlds and levels in the main game.

Plain old gamer :)

So you completed the game 100%? Can you explain how to acquire a medal and a banana icon for each world? The manual doesn't explain them. I'm positive that I got all the bananas in most of the worlds, but I only have a banana icon on the first world for some reason. It probably stands for something else. Maybe the medals stand for collecting all the bananas?

Got it today, going to have a go now. Will post impressions later. (Not monkey impressions.)

OK, had a fairly decent play of the game up to the end of world 3 and dabbled in the other modes.

First of all, let me say that the only SMB games I've played are the original on the GC (amazing) and Banana Blitz on the Wii (awful,) so with both ends of the spectrum covered, I'll start with the problems. First one is the camera angle when you tilt the level. It drops way down behind the monkey and makes it really hard to judge when a drop is approaching. The original game definitely wasn't as bad as this. Second is the levels so far have been quite easy. Lots of barriers and narrow trackks with a slight kerb to keep you on course. Also, they're very linear without many open plan areas on the levels. I hope the levels get more complicated.

I think that's it as far as the bad things go. Other than that it's just another Monkey Ball game. Monkey Race has good handling and quite a nifty drift/cornering method that you have to time quite well to get the best effect. Monkey FIght I'm so-so about. I'm not a Smash Bros fan so I could take or leave this. Overall, nice GFX, music and 60fps.

One more thing is that I can't play this with the 3D on because of the camera angle problem I mentioned earlier. I find I tilt the 3DS to try to peep over the top of the ball. Stupid, I know, because it has no effect on the camera angle! It's just a natural thing, like leaning over when paying a racing game or something. Obviously, the 3D effect is gone when I do this. I wouldn't say this is a definite problem with the game; just something I have to learn not to do.

It looks nice, I'll give it that. It doesn't have the flair that Banana Blitz had, but that's fine, considering the whole 3D thing looks great. Personally, that's the only real selling point of the game.

Yeah, it's pretty easy. Also, the music so far isn't as memorable as the other games were. Maybe that's just because the difficulty of the other games were what forced me to listen to the same tracks over and over and OVER (In a good way!)

As a Monkey Ball game, it's pretty poor. As a 3DS game, it showcases the system's abilities pretty well, and it's sure to tide people over until stuff like Resident Evil start coming out.

I'm working on a game that's coming out soon!

Ive played through all the worlds, and I will have to say compared to some of the others in the series it is quite easy.
But I did find it enjoyable especially in 3D.

I'm a huge Super Monkey Ball fan
I own almost every monkey ball game and I have beaten most of them (except for a few levels such as the infamous Ultra Heaven 5 in BB)

Here is my rankings of every monkey ball game I own:
1 Super Monkey Ball 2
2 Super Monkey Ball
3 Banana Blitz
4 Touch N Roll
5 Super Monkey Ball 3D
6 Super Monkey Ball Jr
7 Super Monkey Ball Step N Roll
8 Super Monkey Ball Adventure

There is a pretty big gap between Jr and S&R.
And adventure Really Sucks.

You get the bananas for collecting the special bananas in each stage, and you get the c medal for beating the world with the circle pad, and the m medal for beating the world with the motion tilting. i believe thats all true, but I'm confused like you, i have collected all the bananas and beaten each world, and i received the banana and medals for each world except for 5. i just rebeat it, and still nothing. very confusing

Did you perhaps use a continue in world 5 and not in the other worlds? Because I don't get it that I only have one banana (in world 1) while I perfected all the special stages and collected every banana in the other stages (except for 2 worlds). However I did use continues in all the worlds except for world 1, so maybe this has something to do with it. I'll replay the stages later tonight to see if I can score some banana icons.
