I'm just wondering if anyones having the same problem as I am, i've been using Pokemon Amie and theres a feature where you're able to do different facial expressions to get the Pokemon to be more friendly and most of them work fine but ones like "Do a huge smile" and "Go wide eyed" don't work very well for me, I smile as largely as I can and go as wide eyed as possible but it doesn't register.

Ya I had the same problems you were having. Almost anything involving my eyes never worked and large smiles rarely read. I the camera is really bad quality so it wants us to be in a well lit room so it can actually see your face. You can try that but I just recommend playing the other games to get max affection.

Yep, me too. It told me to wink with my left eye, so I tried closing it as hard as I could, I tried covering it, I tried opening my other eye really wide at the same time, but nothing worked. I also got the make a big smile one too, that didn't work either. I haven't got any simpler ones yet, but after the first few tries, I've become afraid to try it again.

@NightmareXIV: To activate it, you just have to make different expressions. Like smile, then do a "kissy face" as the game calls it, etc. Then it should start prompting you to make certain faces.

I've never been able to get it to register winking... so I can never get any further into it.

I GOT IT! I was having the same problem, but I breaked the code! You just nede to sit (i did this) under a lamp, maybe with your head pointing up to the lamp a bit, and do what the pokemon want jo to do. BUT... When the Face-thing "pop" up you gotta sit totally still. Because it is when you are able to try to do the same thing as your pokemon, are you sitting right and make it possible to acually do that!
Hope it was understandable(*) and sorry my bad english, im just from Norway, so what can i say? ^^
But this will work. Well it worked for me

Yep, good lighting will make a great difference to face detection, but who wants a bright light shining in their face all the time?
Hopefully someone will make a sheet of faces doing these expressions that will match what Amie asks us to do, so we can just hold up the right one to the camera.
I cannot seem to get 'wide eyed' working. Seeing the pokemon disappointed that I failed is really frustrating

^I know, I hated seeing that disappointed look on Rin's (Eevee) face when I couldn't get the interface to recognize any I did. It's a great feature though and I just love the whole existence of Pokemon-Amie, so I hope they keep it (or some kind of equivalent) for future installments and improve it. I think I have a bright lamp somewhere in the house so I'll try that trick some time.

for it to work properly you have to be in a fairly dark room, i just turned off the lights, and held it at about half an arms length away. The only gesture that doesnt work for me is when you tilt your head and wink, it has to be spot on each time or it wont work, which is a shame since i was able to evolve Robin (Crobat) at a fairly low level, mostly by fattening it with cupcakes. I dont have much use for it besides that, so tell me if my advice works.

You can only trust 2 kinds of people, yourself and people who like big butts, 'caus they cannot lie

gosh I thought it was just me!:/ I rarely used to smile so I thought that I just can't and it was really depressing. Especially when I had my friend try it and it worked.:/ Maybe it doesn't recognize my tan skin. Pokemon is racist! Lol jk

So, I was having the same problems which is why I came across this thread, and then I thought that maybe my camera was just too dirty. So I grabbed the cloth I use to clean off my glasses and proceeded to clean off the camera, and then it worked fine. Maybe even a little too fine, because when I got the go wide eyed one I didn't even move my eyes and it registered it as a success.
