Games don't make people do stupid things - the bulk of scientific and psychological research backs that up. With that said, what games do remarkably well is glamorise certain activities and perhaps encourage people to get involved with them themselves. Wii Fit did encourage a lot of people to take up exercise away from the Wii, I know personally I became greatly interested in the Sengoku period of Japan only after playing Samurai Warriors. It is completely conceivable that someone who previously had little interest in hunting could be inspired to take it up after playing a good hunting game.

I'm not necessarily saying this is a good hunting game, but that's an issue I have with the entire genre.

I'd like to see you try. Nothing can offend me in video games since I know it's just a game.

Right, my bad for giving you the benefit of the doubt. Games are not "just games." To me (and many others) games are an artistic medium - an audio/ visual and interactive reflection of social and cultural values and attitudes. Within that context it's entirely possible for games to be as offensive as books or films can be.

If you want to treat games like a child's toy, that's your business. Being all condescending on someone because they're offended by a game is not a reasonable response. Naughty you.

The difference here is that exercise and studying history aren't offensive, while hunting is offensive many people's eyes (including mine). So I don't think this is going to get people off the couch and hunting, especially when hunting is absolutely nothing like what is pictured in the game.

One needs to also keep in mind that real world moralities are very different from those found in video games. Games do not have the same logic as the real world. When you play this game, you are not killing a harmless animal; you are killing a CPU designed in the game. Not so in the real world.

Look at Kirby: Squeak Squad. In that game, Kirby goes off KILLING AND EATING everything in his path. Do they have anything to do with stealing his cake? Not so, if the first portion of the game is any evidence, where Kirby masacres every living thing in his path to King Dedede's castle, only to find he had nothing to do with it. Yet he continues on his adventure of blind murder, where he simply consumes and/or destroys everything in his path. That seems at the very least just as offensive.

Kirby Super Star actually had a relatively dark story. When you find out that Kirby was the villain all along, and Meta Knight was the good guy trying to stop him...

Oh, I'm not specifically talking about this game. In fact, if it's just a arcade shooting gallery I really couldn't care less about it.

When I talk about hunting games I've got games like Cabelas games in mind.

I'm positive @OlympicCho knows this, but to clarify for those who don't know much about the genré, the Cabela's games actually feature you in a more realistic setting, stalking your target (much like real hunting, even if glorified to make it more exciting. In other words, they're hunting sims with elaborations thrown in).

As for this game, it is an arcade style on rails shooting gallery (think Mad Dog McCree or Crazy Chicken Pirates, but with much more content).

Don't forget you can take "photos" of your digital self with your kills and post them to Facebook.

I actually didn't know that (the only personal experience I've had was with a Wii version at a friend's house a few years ago).

Funny, I don't recall anyone flipping the hell out like this over a Monster Hunter game. I'm thinking if they switched out the cute widdle wions an' ewwephants for some random dinosaur-looking beasts, this would be a non-issue.

As for the game at hand, Teyon has never really impressed me before, so count me in as one of the ones waiting for a review.

It would be a hellava lot cooler too. T-Rexes are always much more fun to hunt than a fleshy lion.

I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to Teyon. Though hopefully, since it was originally set for a retail release, it'll have more to it than their last two eShop games.

Maybe you should go and watch Kimba the white lion and see how good old 1960's violence warnings are a good thing to have.

Well, show I told you about has african animals in it, has a lot of scenes that show the horrors of animal death and ETC...

My point is, considering how this game was ANNOUNCED days after I finished the show, it pretty much is bad timing for me mentally.

Lol, the creatures in Monster Hunter aren't even real. They're based around ancient creatures, some, but it's different. Either way I don't care if someone enjoys this game or not. Good for them, I guess. They get another game to enjoy. I just wouldn't be able to enjoy it from a moral stand point. I'm not freaking out over it. Just stating my opinion on the game.

@TheDreamingHawk: I'm sorry you're having a hard time getting over KtWL at the moment (it's a decent anime IMO, but Tezuka's work is a bit old-fashioned for me), but I still do not get your point with regards to my own comment. i don't remember people getting argumentative over the Monster Hunter series whenever a new game hits, so i feel it's safe to assume that if they stuck horns on those lions, gave the elephants three heads, and called it 'Outdoors Unleashed: Ceti Alpha V', there wouldn't be any uproar. the anti-hunting message in Kimba the White Lion has nothing to do with what I'm trying to say.

Every blockbuster has a man with a gun on the cover. Like it or not we are all being desensitised - whether its shooting hippos in a pond or gunning down Afghanis in the streets. This is the norm in todays society. Its all subliminal coersion. Im going to play pushmo.

though i agree with some of what you are saying, your post does come across as arrogant. i grew up in a house of hunters: my dad and 3 brothers all hunted wild pheasant, quail, rabbit. we ate them.

my husband was a deer hunter. again, we ate them. many, many hunters are deeply into conservation. much of the license fees here in the states go towards conservation programs.

personally, the only way i'd play this game is if we were allowed to hunt poachers who are a massive threat to species all over the world. when they kill a rhino and just leave the carcass rotting in the sun because all they wanted was the horn, they deserve whatever bad that happens to them. all sorts of animals are poached due to people believing that bits and bobs of them are aphrodisiacs or hoodoo medicine. until those attitudes change, the senseless slaughter will continue.

I would pay a lot of money for a hunting game where you could, instead of going after the animals, hunt the hunters. <_<
