UPDATE: Today my new unit was delivered. And now I can confirm it: The C-Stick of my first unit was definitely broken. I compared the responsiveness of both sticks in the home screen side by side. And the new one works as it should, while the old one stuttered and stopped just after scrolling over 4 icons (downwards). I also tried out RE-Revelations and I am relived to tell you that the controls are far more fluid and precise as with the former unit. The circle pad pro still performs better, but it's bulky form makes this option in my opinion inferior to the controls of the New 3DS XL. Hopefully this positive impression of the performance lasts. If not, I will post here again.

I discovered a great test for the C-Stick. Open up any Youtube video, and use the C-Stick in every direction to control video speed. It gives you a percentage. For me, left right & up will go to 100% equally as easilly. Down only goes to about 60% max and its very jumpy...

I entered youtube via the browser. And it shows no percentage. Only how fast I fast-forward: e.g. 2,0 x. But backwards I only get 0,25 x... I am a little bit confused. = ) Are we talking about the same thing?

Yes sorry I couldn't remember how it displayed. My point is to get 2.0x using down movement I literally have to pull the C-Stick down with my fingernail pretty hard and even then it won't stay. I noticed in RE: Revelations it's also harder to get it to register downward movements...

Hi All,
Same issues here and i swapped my device for another one (new 3ds xl).
My first one had the problem with the "down" movement so i decided to return it. Now my new one has the same problem but now with the motion to the right as well. So there are differences between all the devices. I have to say that i was used to it because i had a bit of a solution for my self to get it function properly. 1) wash your hands with some soap. Your hands will be degreased by now. 2) don't play with the end of your thumb but with your whole thumb covering the stick. If you take a good look at the device you will see a cut out for some extra "thumb" space. When i do this, both devices wored great. I can get full circles in the calibration program without adding to much pressure. After all i think it have a little break in period. The "to the right" flaw is not that noticeable after a few hours. Hope this helps. I wonder what Nintendo will say about this. I think they've made a mistake by choosing this kind of stick. They are complaining about "not enough space" but i think there is enough because the should get rid of that useless low res second fake touchscreen! Or make it much smaller at least so there will be room for a proper analog stick. It will save some battery life too

My XL'S C stick is working just fine and I also have sweaty hands lol.

The C stick is never meant to be a second circle pad. It's a stick. If you really want a circle pad, just get the circle pad pro. The C stick does it job. A pretty fine job at that too I can't imagine playing monster hunter without it.

I had the same problem with the C Stick not moving downward properly. It's a common problem with the N3DS. I had 2 replacements before sending the second system back for a refund. Nintendo are cheap as chips and it shows in the build quality of the N3DS.

Also, you shouldn't need to wash your hands, break it in, use it for a while or various other pathetic excuses to give yourself that placebo effect that the C Stick works properly. It's a design failure on Nintendo's part and it should work as intended right out the box.

Gamers on here really need to drop these pathetic excuses for a poor product.

@KongFu: Yes i've got the same problem with the c stick. I brought a new 3ds xl blue version a month ago. The first game i got was resident evil revelations. I went into the settings and changed it to the c stick controls. What i found out was that the c stick is usless it just doesnt work on the new system at all. When you are facing norman you have to aim for his head the c stick just doesnt work at all. Its the same for zelda majoras mask its hit and miss. I dont think its faulty or anything like that i just think its not a proper anulog stick like the vita it feels uncomftable to use. I find when your thumb gets sweaty it doesnt respond at all. Nintendo should of put another anulog stick down the bottom near the start and select buttons you would of had full control of moving around and up and down. Very dissapointing
