Topic: Merry Christmas Nintendo - From: Sony

I'm looking at the expected release date of the Vita from various sources. It seems like in the U.S. it's January. In Canada it's March. Europe is around the same time as Canada. All these major markets miss out on the Christmas rush. Nintendo 3DS is going to be competing against the PSP over the holidays instead of the Vita. That's a huge amount of luck right there. Sony's handheld looks like it's going to be awesome and I may get one and use both the 3DS and the Vita, not sure, but in the meantime I am glad that Nintendo is getting this head start. I feel they need it after a pretty mediocre offering to date. The better the 3DS does at Christmas, the better chance that the 3DS passes the accomplishments of the DS. I'm all for that. I'm hoping Nintendo won't hold back any big titles to release around when the Vita drops because when you look at it here's what's to come maybe before the Vita drops:

Star Fox 64 3D
Mario Cart 3DS
Super Mario
Luigi's Mansion 2
Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D
Pokemon Rumble Blast
Kid Icarus Uprising
Resident Evil Revelations
Kirby: Mass Attack
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2
Shin Megami Tensei 3DS
Shinobi
Ace Combat 3D
Need for Speed: The Run
Sonic Generations
Cave Story 3D
FIFA Soccer 12

And that's not taking into consideration the strong offerings to date of Zelda, SF and Ghost Recon. Sony's launch be an uphill battle with that kind of competition and it was a real blow for them when word got out that Call of Duty Portable is going to be later than expected. That game could be a console seller and people will have to wait for it.

Mario itself is probably going to sell a lot of 3DS systems this holiday, assuming it's coming out then. Kind of odd that Sony is releasing the Vita AFTER the holidays, perhaps more time for developers to work on their games?

That seems to be a big problem and I notice it all the time, people think it's just another updated model like the DSi instead of being a next generation handheld. Maybe going with the DS brand again wasn't the greatest idea or it's been marketed badly.

Who wants to play old tired out Nintendo games.
sofar, the 3DS hasn't shown me nothing good, we're better off with a PSVita.
Sony does what Nintendon't

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

To be fair, Call of Duty and Uncharted are going down the "tired out" route pretty fast.

There are only 2 Uncharted games though. I don't see how that could 'tire out' a whole franchise.

Four games with the third one and Vita game coming soon. I'm not saying it's tired out at the moment, but it very well could if it keeps it up.
Btw, which of those games in the list are actually confirmed for this year? Just curious.

Nintendo doesn't need Sony to miss the holiday season. Vita could come out in November and Nintendo would still have huge 3DS sales. The news of it likely missing 2011 launch will just give 3DS that many more sales. I don't think Vita will beat 3DS. I have faith that they will repeat the history of DS vs PSP. IMO, IOS devices stand a better chance of beating 3DS than Vita does. (That's not to say I like or am a fan of IOS devices, I'm not).

People, I'm not perfect. I hit most of them. Thanks for posting those I missed.

Here's another thought. Why the heck isn't Nintendo dropping more high profile games on the virtual console? I find they're dragging their feet with it. some of the titles have been excellent but most have been "blah". Zelda was great but beyond Zelda and some of the two 3D classics there isn't a whle lot to be excited about so far. I want to see some GBA titles hit.

I think the Virtual Console is off to a decent start, I didn't expect we would have Donkey Kong and Zelda so early. While it would be great to see some GBA games released they will probably go through their GB/GBC library first before that. Also, what happened to Game Gear?

I guess Sony wanted to release it this year, but then the hackers came! I am sure that because of the hackers-issue Sony wanted to make sure that everything was right regarding Vita, that's why they delayed it to next year!

I agree this is big luck for Nintendo. Personally I hope they don't bank on the Mario popularity only, but also drop the price considerably. Because I only want to buy a 3DS when it gets cheaper!

Somehow I don't think Sony is going to let Nintendo have a couple years head start this generation.
(well, that's about how long it took them to get the memo people wanted games, not UMD movies. )
