I'm loving the story so far... I really like the idea of super technologically advanced ancient ruins in "medieval" times, so I can tell I'll be enjoying this story a lot.

I kinda dislike the "you have a new goal" messages though, mostly because they set the map to full view and I prefer the zoomed-in view better.
There's also the obvious "X paper" decorative trees on the first floor of the labyrinth, they kinda stand out in the otherwise beautiful surroundings.

So first time playing an Etrian game (decided to wait of getting 4 when the remake was announced earlier this year). Holy crap what have I been missing??????????? This game is fantastic!!!!!!!!! Sadly Pokemon is a priority at the moment (and preordered as well) so this will have to wait a bit. Maybe for Christmas....

@Neo-GeoFan Have you played the EO4 demo? Don't forget that this game here is the first to feature a real story mode. Not saying there isn't a story in the other games in the series but not to this extent. Also EO4 is the first of the series to offer a true over world to explore which made it that much more fun and enjoyable!

From what I could play of this demo, I think there's no overworld map in this one like in 4.

About this one, has any of you played the original? How changed is this?

The demo is going really good. The amazing anime cutscene in the beginning really grabbed me. October is truly Nintendo's month: Pokemon X/Y, Wind Waker HD, Sonic Lost World U/3DS, and EO:MG. I'm getting all those games.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I do plan on getting a PS4 someday :D

Well i did go into that on the last page last quote. Ive played them all and EO4 is the only one to offer an over world. 3 came close as if you ever play it the over world style came as a side event instead of making you go through it.

As for the changes, so far the high ranks that went to map the first area was new as in classic you make a 5 person team just like the rest of the series. That made it super easy though even on the hardest level of which im on! No risk of dying as much and well ive yet to die and on the original i die a lot early on. All there was in the original was the labyrinth floors though so the part of the story where the party all meets is brand spanking new. Visuals are obviously updated to match that of EO4 as in 1-3 the enemies didnt move and foes appeared as large giant balls that looked like fire. Which means you didnt know what foe you were fighting till you fought them.

Also the options are updated to match EO4's as well. In the original you couldn't strafe and had to turn to each and ever wall to look for secret ways to explore further in.

Can't think of anything else atm but it sure does look and sound pretty!

Since Pokemon Y is already paid for in full, I think I will buy EOU as well. After playing a bit of the demo, I really like it. This may make spot 3 on my most favorite 3DS games.

So far...

Super impressed by the updated skill trees. I was hoping for a skill system closer to EO4 as IMO the class/skill system in that game is vastly superior to the originals. At first I was disappointed here because I thought that it was just the same old skill trees redone in an EO4 layout. The skills have definitely been revamped though. I noticed medic doesn't seem to have a patch up style skill (sadface =/) but I liked how they redid alchemist to have one generic alchemy skill instead of specialties for each element. I also like that you can gather resources without having the requisite skill (though I prefer EO4's one skill point to gain a boost as opposed to it being a dump stat in this game)

I really ~really~ like the new Highlander class. That skill where you heal up after slaying an enemy is awesome and will make me forget all about the lack of patch up.

How does it compare to the original?

Character designs are all retained, general look is retained. Everything is bumped up with improved resolution and artwork. It looks great and is sure to put a smile on the faces of people who have fond memories of the first game. The intro dungeon is a near perfect replica of the first floor of the original game though the way it plays out is quite different since you have powerful NPC helpers instead of a party of scrubs.

The demo is of good length and I don't want to spoil it to heavily but suffice to say I am real happy that we aren't simply retreading the EO1 dungeon again. I love EO1 but I've seen some of those early floors enough that I wouldn't need to bother with mapping lol

The core team of characters seems cool. I think I'm really going to enjoy Frederica and Simon. And I LOVED getting that Hexer and Ronin to start out. That combo of the auto-kill and auto-stun was great and my mouth is watering at getting to build it up on my own. I never used either class heavily in EO1 but I believe the auto-kill is new?

Where's the KABOOM?! There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! sigh delays...delays...

If Atlus starts doing more with the story and gameplay... EO could actually become the next "Kingdom Hearts" like experience....

Grimoire Stones are new! I think I'm really going to like those. This game feels like a V8 compared to the original which was like a 3 cylinder! Still a good game in its own right but pales to the options set by the newer games!

Yeah, grimoires sound interesting! Not sure I completely got how to use them though.

I'm not sure if this was on IV or not, but the shady fire that surrounds foes on the map tells you how strong they're compared to you. That will be useful!

IV did let you know how strong they were by color. Not sure yet how this game does it if the same. I should be at the end of the demo by today.

Don't atlus games tend to run out of stock and become hard to find quite quickly or is it different from area to area? Anyway from the demo I've played, yeah, just as good as the EOIV demo but with a story maybe I can become more invested to push through. Not sure if I'll be getting this though, still have SMT4, 4HoL, and a slew of PS3 games on my backlog.

@GuyIncognito It was really bad for the ds. If you didn't pre order it good luck finding it day one really. I've heard some people complain but at my local Gamestops I still see EO4 and Code Of Princess all the time. New of course.

I caught that bit of dialogue. Lulz were had. Oh yes..

FOEs are marked the same way on the map as in EO4 so you can tell how powerful they are. EO4 was one I picked up physically from a Gamestop no problem awhile after it came out. I've also never had problems finding Atlus games via Amazon after street date.

Grimoires I think will be fun to play with but since they are a little more abstract it might be frustrating to get them and won't be as easy to use as the secondary classes from EO4. It will be more flexible though which will be great in the later stages of the game. So far most of the extra stones I've acquired have been from Arthur.

Anyone notice Raquna's "Prayer" skill? It's a passive that restores HP and TP (!!!!) after battle. Items are going to be even less useful in this game then in past games for me I think. Some of the passives are really cool, which probably means I'll break my characters and they'll have no good attacks for the bosses since I'll focus on building up passives to survive the slog through the floors.

Anyone else check out floor jump yet? Holy crap yes.
